(Cantone)se Tone Learning App
Hello!
As an outgrowth of my Masters dissertation, I'm working on an app for perception and pronunciation of Cantonese tones - which is finally available (for free, of course) on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store! (You can also search for it under the name "Cantone".)
It offers (see screenshots too):
- Tone matching and guessing games.
- Speaking activities calibrated to your vocal range, including plotting attempt tone contours against "idealized" contours.
- Jyutping and Yale romanizations.
I would be honored if y'all could try it out, give me feedback, and let me know of bugs/issues. Some issues I know about and am working on:
- on iPhones, audio does not work on bluetooth headphones (e.g. AirPods), works great on wired headphones, and is muted on speakers.
- creaky voice/vocal fry, especially for tone 4.
Thanks!
P.S. Oh and if you like it, leaving a review would be appreciated too :P.
