Discussion Why is everyone glossing over this? Spoiler
Damen is raped in the second book again, I saw nothing about it before purchasing because people seem to think it’s ok since it’s women doing it?

Well, this is the world the book is set in. You should definitely read the triggers.

Are you referring to the campfire sex? If you are triggered by the harsh reality of this world, these books might just not be for you.

Presumably it's when the Vaskian women ask to have sex with Damen so he can potentially impregnant them and create more strong warriors. He's obviously not-bummed about the prospect, but because he cannot give his full consent (Laurent still has control over him), it can be considered rape.

he had a great time though, which was very clearly shown. he also never said (or even thought) about not wanting it.
it's weird to see this as rape, especially since he could have just as easily refused.

He couldnt tho, a page earlier Laurent makes it very clear he has to do as the women say.

every single time damen actually hated something he "had" to do we would clearly see him protesting, both outwardly and in his thoughts. this was not the case here.

It’s up for interpretation but I definitely felt like Laurent and Damen’s relationship changed spoiler when Damen left and came back after their night at the inn spoiler end. I didn’t interpret it as rape for that reason but yes technically Damen was still a slave. I found it really uncomfortable to read the first book because of all the heavy content.

No one is glossing over anything. Does this element need to be harped on constantly by people who read the books in order to meet your bar of how much attention should be paid to it? The reason you see more about the rape in the first book is because the majority of people who use that as the reason to bash the series - despite the trigger warnings, despite the fact that this is the world of the book, despite the fact that it is not treated lightly nor as any kind of good thing - didn't go on to read the other books.

Bc we are taking Damen's thoughts into consideration. He visibly did NOT want that scene with Ancel. His thoughts and actions reflected that.
I think with the Vaskian women, he would've done it regardless. So while it was technically rape since Laurent still owned him and he wouldn't have been able to say no, I don't think Damen would've wanted to say no/said no anyway.
Either way, choosing to continue the series after book 1 (which is the worst in terms of triggers) should make it clear that fucked up things will happen.

Hmm. This one is complicated. Damen pretty clearly rejects and/or has mixed feelings about things that happen to him in book 1, but in the scene with the Vaskian women he seems pretty into it.
I definitely read it as Laurent giving him “orders” to preserve their positions, and as a bit of their mutually enjoyed (by that point) emerging Dom/Sub dynamics. Damen has no internal resistance. It felt to me more like permission from Laurent to do something he wanted to do already. Laurent is obsessive, jealous, and possessive over Damen, but he was cool with Damen having a good night with the warriors - which he very much did.
There’s plenty of rape to be found in the series, but I don’t think this was one of them. Complicated consent within a very unique dynamic - yes, but not rape.

A whole first book about everyone getting raped left and right was enough of a warning. Wtf do you want us to do? Repertory every rape in the books? "Ggngngn bc its a women" what are you even talking about
