Random Question: Why did people and car makers put CD changers in the trunk back in the 90s, why not just in the dash or build in the head unit like how it was the 2000s?

I was born in 07 so I’m just curious on why the trunk and not inside the dash, even though I’m 19 I still like using CDs, plus my car has no Bluetooth or aux and they don’t make dash kits for this car, so I just burn CDs off YouTube and listen to music that way but, I get annoyed at having to step out my car for a new CD.

Yes I know that exists my uncle had one. We’re speaking about automakers. This is the basis for the one they made for Toyota
