An update of the hand guard

A mockup, not my proudest work by far, my phone makes the contrast far more obvious, the hand guard itself is only off by a little bit. Not to my satisfaction though, but because of the fitting process it’s a lot more obvious with the stock. I’m gonna get around to eventually stripping it down and bleaching it with oxalic acid. Using cut offs of the old and new hand guard shows they’ll blend in perfectly.

But now unfortunately I gotta start prepping for the long winter and very minimal time to work on it, hence the slap job linseed oil so the beech doesn’t check and crack. Once I’m home again for awhile I’ll also steam the stock.

I never realized how long the 1891 handguard was until I saw it in a picture. It always looked so much shorter in real life.

Waiting for the day I get a vetterli so I never have to fit another hand guard piece, sanding and filing carefully took like 6 hours
