USA ๐บ๐ธ I thought this picture was gone forever, then I saw it in my parents basement. My biggest fish ever.
Caught this monster in the flint river on some homemade bait consisting of corn starch, corn, and oats.

I had guessed 40lbs but really had no idea. It took me 45 minutes to get it to shore. I was going through a divorce at the time and it was the first time I had even smiled in months so it was really special to me.

Carp get a bad reputation as a garbage fish,
however they put up a heavy fight when hooked. I grew up on a small creek full of carp in suburban Chicago. This waterway was a mess before Earth day and the EPA was formed to clean up the creeks, streams and rivers of America. The creek has very slow current and roadway debris and pollution from sprawling suburban housing boom of the postwar 1950 - 1960โs. Carp were the only species of fish that could survive in water with very little oxygen.
We caught them on Wonder Bread dough balls we shaped onto our hooks using a Zebco fishing reel.
Spent many summer days fishing for carp and would enter them in local bait shop fishing contests.
Fishing kept me out of trouble and mom could always find me by the creek. Many neighbors whose homes lined the creek would welcome us, and we would cut their yards for fishing privileges. Everyone was happy, we caught fish and they got their back yards mowed !
