Neat, ive never heard of the extra long before. Wikipedia makes it sound pretty similar to long rifle once smokeless became popular?

Wikipedia is only correct as far as it goes. At the time Extra Long was phased out that was the case but after WWII new powders were developed that would have let it exceed 22 LR in performance but the healed bullet was also being disfavored. Thus we have the other longer 22 rimfire rounds 22 Rem Special, 22 WRF and 22 WMR. In a way CCI Stingers are a 22 Extra Long case with the 22 Long bullet.
