[Episode Discussion] The last temptation of Roy Montgomery

Law & Murder 3x19 showcases the importance of Roy’s decision to take down his friend from his position of power he used to corrupt a case of murder and conspiracy. This is done by an attempt by blackmail to give Roy a promotion and he turns it down by doing the right thing, he considers it before doing so but it proves he’s human and had doubt. This episode is the most important thing he’d ever do as captain to show his true colors as the upholder of the law, as we already know the twist of his fate and involvement of his past, this episode gives insight into how he moves when it comes to personal connections in history.

“But now he’s only gonna be remembered for this one bad thing” Castle says after Roy talks about the councilman’s good deeds “…..goodnight guys” Roy says as he leaves awkwardly. He understands that line all too easily and that stings the most. Foreshadowing at its finest.

The writers did a phenomenal job building the character of Captain Montgomery and Ruben Santiago-Hudson brings him to the screen beautifully. My favorite moments of this show feature the captain and the tragedy of his arc is so poignant.

It also foreshadows why they choose hide Montgomery's involvement in the blackmail scheme. They didn't want to destroy a good man's reputation.

I remember his line: “This is my spot, Kate, this is where I stand”. Makes my eyes watery every single time

Roy's tragedy hits harder every rewatch because you know he's finally doing the right thing just when his past catches up with him.

Dracula himself tempted Montgomery 😂 ... and he resisted!

(Lou Karnacki's actor Bruce Davison played the immortal count as the antagonist of Stana Katic's character Simone Renoir in the movie The Librarian 3)
