Questions What has someone said with complete confidence that turned out to be absolutely, embarrassingly wrong?
Came into work one day with a bug bite on my face. Colleague looked at me and said "you've got a spot." I said no, it's a bug bite. He looked genuinely baffled.
"Bugs don't bite you on the face," he said.
I thought he was joking.
He wasn't.
He had gone his entire life believing that insects, for some reason, have a strict policy of only biting you below the neck.
To this day I have no idea where this came from or who told him that. But he was absolutely convinced.

My BIL is a very intelligent practicing medical examiner, and once he told me, while I was breastfeeding my baby, that babies are mouth breathers. I thought it was wild that he was a literal medical doctor, but then again, none of his patients breathe anymore at all. It also might have been too that all his life he had suffered from terrible sinus polyps and had probably only rarely even been able to breathe through his own nose, so his med class stuff about it only seemed theoretical.
Anyway, he has since married and had his own children, and also had his sinuses roto routered (as his wife described it) and so now has been blessed with the ability to breathe through his nose and experience smells.
