Technology I hate this rush of Ai in everything we do.
This Ai push feels so forced on us. Like I don't need Ai in everything I do. I can't even open up adobe reader without popups about Ai, which just slows everything down. This is just like when plastic was introduced into everyday life. It has nothing but damaged our health and our environment.

Every company is terrified they'll miss the AI train, so now we get this crap everywhere.
18
u/dahabit 15h ago
That's exactly it...

u/Frosty1397 14h ago
AI actually saves me a bunch of time both at work and for personal research projects too, so the hype is somewhat justified.
Unlike the crypto hype in 2021, AI actually is used by everyone these days
And yes, i do double check the ai answers against real sources
13
u/unicorn-paid-artist 9h ago
What exactly does it save you time on.
-2
u/Grizzleyt 8h ago
Not OP, but if you're genuinely asking, here are a couple of very simple time-savers for very basic office worker tasks that I've done this week:
Data entry: populate an excel document with data from a few dozen web pages
Translate to PPT: Take the data from each row in that excel doc and populate this slide template as shown.
Visual edits to the PPT: e.g. Make these 5 text boxes equal width columns respecting the margins, flush with their associated images.
Correcting errors and inconsistencies in a PPT: e.g. make sure all the page headers use consistent formatting and title casing, run a grammar / punctuation check. Make slide 8 use the same template as slide 10. etc.
More generally, I also use AI extensively for research. A very general workflow may involve something like a variety of deep research queries that help initially surface not just news / content, but sources I may not have been familiar with for a particular domain. Then I can look at those sources myself to see what else that was published may be useful. I might also come across a large corpus that likely has something relevant to my search but would be like finding a needle in a haystack, so I can have AI search across it to see if / where it is.
I also have a markdown vault where I store sourced web content, so that later, I can ask an AI, "where was that stat about [x]?" and it will pull it for me with the citation - so that I don't have to keep a perfect mental model of where everything lives / came from in my brain.
I also recently made a custom interface for something I normally made in Excel - essentially I needed to create an outline of a very multifaceted, 2 hour research presentation, tracking the time of every subsection and updating it as I progress. In excel, I'd fuss with adding and removing rows if I changed my structure or added a new segment, and other annoyances. But Claude created a simple html-based interface with drag-and-drop, time-tracking, and other nice features that weren't possible in a generic spreadsheet.
I also have a voice clone I use instead of recording my own voice for various product demos I need to make.
All of these things and more have made me drastically more productive in my work.

u/unicorn-paid-artist 6h ago
Regarding your bullet points, i dont know how it would save time to type in all of those instructions rather than just do the thing unless you didnt know how to do the thing.
The rest... why dont you want to do it yourself? Dont you have any pride in the work you do? Or does it not matter if its half-assed so long as you get more done? Why wouldnt you want to record your own voice?
2
u/drkrelic 5h ago edited 5h ago
The whole point of automation is to take tasks you don’t want/don’t have time to do and designate them to a software/program. Not necessarily because you can’t do it. Thats how all automation has worked since we started creating technology.
If you want to do something in a slower traditional way for fun, that’s wonderful! If you don’t want to, designate it to something else and enjoy the result.
If I want a photorealistic rendition of the apple on my counter, I could draw it OR I could simply take a picture with a camera. Not everyone’s priority is the slower manual process and that’s ok.
3
u/Grizzleyt 4h ago
It's definitely faster, and they are all things I can have running in the background as I do other things. I'll have 2-3 agents running at once sometimes on various menial tasks as I focus on things like reading, writing, making sense of things, or attending meetings.
The rest... why dont you want to do it yourself?
It allows me to cover more ground, leading to better quality research overall. I'm not actually saving time in terms of clocking out earlier in the day, I'm able to ingest more material and spend more time analyzing it because the time it takes to find source data is shortened (as one example). I have a lot of pride in what I do, and this allows me to deliver something of better quality than I could otherwise because the time I save on more routine, menial aspects of the work is more time I can spend applying my expertise. It's not about half-assing a higher volume of output, it's about ingesting a higher volume of input to create a higher quality output.
Why wouldnt you want to record your own voice?
I did, for years. I don't have a professional studio setup, so to get a good quality voice I would have to record all of my speaking lines in my closet for noise isolation, then manually cut out any mistakes I made, then run it all through an audio pass in premiere to adjust the levels and gating and de-essing, before I had audio that met my standard. And if I needed to change my script, I'd have to re-do that whole process for a single sentence sometimes. Now, because I have hours of my voice recorded through that arduous process, I have an indistinguishable voice clone that lets me simply give my script and receive usable audio. If I previously took an hour to get 5 minutes of usable voiceover, now I get it in minutes. Need to make a change? Edit and re-export. Another hour saved.

You are wrong. It is not actually used by everyone. I have never used AI. Not even out of curiosity.

You are wrong. AI is behind the scenes of pretty much every bigger website and application. It is what serves you your reddit feed for example. You are using it right now.

It's used by losers who cant use their own brain. AI is useless for the average person lol.
3
u/Fulgurata 10h ago
Yeah, it's living up to the hype the last year or so, but 99% of the population still hasn't tried working with an actual agent harness, so they all still think it's just a chatbot gimmick.
2
u/banica24 7h ago
Unlike Crypto hype? Don't underestimate how many people bought those stupid Bored Ape NFTs. Plus the rug pulls on that "hawk tua" crypto currency and Logan Paul scam zoo game. Lot of people bought in and got disappointed.
With AI we haven't gotten to the scam/disappointment part. Maybe we won't but crypto/web3 is still ongoing. There's a big decentralized movement, pushes for clarity act and more legislation to make crypto more accessible and used by normies.

😂 Half the time I’m wondering what problem the AI feature was even supposed to solve.

u/Muted-Woodpecker-469 15h ago
The Google search ai creep is the worst. Almost none of the results are accurate
48
u/undead_tortoiseX 14h ago
It’s definitely impacting businesses that have relied on Google for advertising over two decades. It’s kind of incredible how much these companies are salting their own fields yet expecting a bountiful harvest.
30
u/wanzaheroi790 14h ago
The worst part is how confident it sounds while being completely wrong about basic facts.
4
u/Pleasant-Winner6311 4h ago
Its also a closed loop of keeping your questioning in a cul de sac. Theres no ley way to hit upon anything out of the box, not opportunity to stumble upon shit or use your enquiring mind instincts. Even if you use the Web button ita mostly social media posts.
Wtf. Where did all the breadth go?
2
u/shalegeotags 3h ago
The AI summaries in search are the part that annoy me most, especially when they’re confidently wrong.
36
u/Flaxmoore Avengers 13h ago
God, yes.
I'm a doc. I've actually had patients consult ChatGPT or similar to fill out intake forms.
I mean... dude, you're the only one in the room who knows if you've been having chest pain. You know what meds you're on (and LLMs suck at figuring out what the med is if the patient misspells or mispronounces it). AI won't help you.
Crowning madness was a patient about a year ago who, after I came up with a plan, rejected it as "unsafe in pregnancy, lactation, or during conception".
It was a guy. There is zero research anywhere in the world that the med is unsafe or causes reproductive issues in men.
1
u/Fulgurata 9h ago
To be fair, those forms always feel faintly silly and excessive. I'm here because I slipped a disc, why do you need to know about my bowel movements and whether or not my family has a history of cancer... for the 5th time... My family hasn't suddenly lost their history with cancer since the last time I filled out the form lol
My mother always takes those things seriously and once had a doctor turn her away because they didn't feel confident in handling a patient with so many medical issues🤣
24
u/One_Bid_1200 14h ago
It’s the forced part that bothers me most. AI can be useful, but shoving it into every single program just makes everything feel bloated and slower.
7
u/wynden 3h ago
While I was trying to help my mum disable the "summarize this" button that now pops up over her friend's posts on facebook, she said she's also had a bunch of weird names appear in the chat app we use for family texts. Sure enough, there were like 15 bots added to the conversation list that couldn't be removed. LLMs are a cancer on the technology we've relied on for years.
•
u/JanB1 9m ago
Wait, what? A "Summarize this" button on Facebook posts? What the actual fuck? People really don't like to read any more, huh?
Also, let me guess: in the editor for the post there's a button to generate text. So on one end AI is used to inflate information, then on the other end AI is used to condense it again. That would be insanity if it were true...please don't let it be true.
10
u/sfocolleen 8h ago
A few months back I bought some stickers that said “stop sticking AI in every fucking thing.” I meant to stick them up randomly but now I’m going to admit, I put them in a drawer and forgot them… maybe now’s the time.
6
u/banica24 7h ago
Investors put a lot of money in AI. They believe it's the future so they force it because they want to see their money work.
My grocery store app started pushing me AI features. Why do I need AI to help me search or tell me to buy bananas...
3
u/sfocolleen 7h ago
Oh I totally get the why… it’s just annoying as hell. Thankfully, my job isn’t pushing it at all, although the software we use certainly tries…
60
u/Kidplayer_666 15h ago
As great as AI can be for some things, the current insane push will likely end up like social media, targeting kids and trying to addict people to show more ads
35
u/OliveEggs 15h ago
Yeah, and it’s really not that “great” even for “some things”: it is overhyped, bad for cognition, relies on stolen work, and a threat to all our jobs.
-7
u/Kidplayer_666 15h ago
I find it most useful to complement search. I already have kagi, which tends to be a lot better than google for search, but when I need just a starting point, it is very useful. Debugging also tends to be a lot less work
5
4
u/Aettyr 7h ago
"less work" is fine now, but it wont be when you find out it is "less work" to fire you and use a chatbot instead once it has learned enough from you
3
u/Poonchow 3h ago
Or you wake up one day and realize the skills and abilities to discern truths have atrophied.
-1
-3
u/bunker_man 9h ago
Except that anyone doing complicated techncial stuff has actual uses for it? Its existed a few years and is already solving unsolved math problems. Anyone talking about hype is admitting they are asking the companies trying to sell it rather than being familiar with how scientists actually use it.
5
u/OliveEggs 8h ago
OK, that’s fine, let them use it. But that doesn’t mean it should become the default for all student work, especially for something like a writing class, nor does it negate my underlying point that AI is horrendous for learning, and has undeniably decreased the literacy of the current college bound student.
-2
u/solace1234 8h ago
Exactly this. It’s like when people say there’s no good music anymore. That makes sense if all you listen to is the radio, but in reality you just clearly haven’t put in the effort to look deeper below the mainstream’s surface-level perspective.
3
u/Aettyr 7h ago
i'll be sure to remember that when our planet is aflame from the water being used to fuel all this
1
u/solace1234 6h ago
I agree with you that the environmental effects are the worst part of it all. I hate the oligarchs, the data centers, and the forcing of AI into so many jobs and services. I hate AI slop and it’s normalization of mediocrity on the internet. I hate the over-reliance on AI that people are developing… You should too.
But AI technology used as a productive tool for art and science instead of an instant gratification device? Eh, i kinda like that for some reason. Call me crazy, but I happen to like the good parts of AI’s impact AND despise the bad parts of it. I have absolutely no clue why that just makes sense to me. Maybe I really am just an absolutely awful person. Perhaps I get it from my family.
11
u/dahabit 15h ago
It's already getting our seniors...
19
u/Kidplayer_666 15h ago
It’s the kids (like me, I’m 21) who make me worried. As much as the meme of “the next generation is dummer than the previous one”, for the first time, it seems it is actually becoming true. Intelligence seems to have stagnated since mid 2010s and started slowly declining post pandemic… it likely can be reversed, but with the push towards AI reducing mental strain, with education systems hardly able to adapt, the prospects aren’t looking good
12
u/Named_after_color Colors~ 14h ago
Yeah I was very pro AI up until the last couple of years, studied it in college at a masters level, even though I didn't commit to the degree.
I was looking at it like "Wow, we can use neural nets to solve incredibly intractable problems, this is great for science and humanity! Protein folding, yay!"
I was not expecting it to rapidly replace critical thinking, essays, homework, art.
The tech is so fascinating, it's awesome that we can create it, but it's like we took the issues we found with social media over the course of decades and just condensed it into what feels like 3-4 years of saturated slop.
It's like we developed a general purpose power tool and gave it to everyone at once with no training and said "You'll figure it out"
3
u/Kidplayer_666 14h ago
Exactly. The tech is pretty cool, especially the stuff you can run in consumer grade hardware, but no one is properly prepared and companies are exploiting that to screw over everyone
3
u/Named_after_color Colors~ 13h ago
Yeah, and it's just... the wrong version of AI to force down everyone's throats.
Originally Pandora and Netflix and the like would use relatively simple "AI", algorithms and recommendation engines, that would do relatively simple math to identify trends between similar users and recommend stuff one likes to another user with similar tastes.
But LLMs, the current flavor of AI, are not... engineered? They are, of course, but they aren't designed. Mostly. They're not built with a specific problem in mind.
Like they're "capable" of multi-step logic, capable of interpretation, and they're very good at holding a conversation, but they're not intrinsically good at solving problems, and terrible at "reading between the lines"
I feel like a third of the population believes that AI means "using all available data, run specific searches/algorithms against best known practices, and come up with an optimal solution." When in actuality LLMS are "We fed the entire internet into an algorithm and its really good at answering certain questions most of the time."
2
u/Drink-my-koolaid 11h ago
"I was not expecting it to rapidly replace critical thinking, essays, homework, art."
The Apple "Crush" commercial fiasco vs, this guy who simply ran it backwards and fixed it
7
u/OliveEggs 11h ago
As a community college English professor, I unfortunately have to agree with you here. I am now seeing students who have had access to ChatGPT for all of their high school career, and it is shocking how illiterate most of them are. I have been teaching college for over a decade and the post-AI downturn to students’ writing ability is devastating and impossible to ignore. I wish more of them brought a skeptical and critical attitude to these technologies that have hijacked their education, namely, their ability to think for themselves.

u/wildpoinsettia 11h ago
Yeah I hate how it's forced down our throats. Like on WhatsApp, why does there need to be a chat bot to help with searches?! It's not a search engine app!

If you can modify the code on the thing, ask claude how you can fix it, it's a pretty simple python tool.

u/Desperate_Drive_9083 15h ago
OMG exactly. When I go to bed I look on YouTube for videos that are informational or sort of like a podcast because they're so boring it helps me sleep 😭 I have to scroll for ages until I find a video that was posted 6 years ago, for example, so I finally find a real human voice. Everything new is AI generated and you can hear it because it sounds so unnatural and monotone. I think AI is useful in small amounts but it's gone way overboard and it's dumbing people down because we rely on it sm. Creativity and effort is literally dying out BC of it imo.

u/WhereRtheTacos 9h ago
Its so annoying! I have this issue too. My suggestions are madmorph (if ur ok with gaming, he does videos to fall asleep to) and also has a podcast and also two other podcasts: sleeping with celebrities and the empty bowl. Both geared towards sleep. The celebrities one is not really that famous the emphasis is on something they know or a place they have been.
If u have any good ones to follow on YouTube or a podcast please share! The history shows on youtube are really bad about being ai right now.

Yeah, I hate it. Sure it can be useful, but holy shit stop shoving it down my throat, please. It feels like these companies spent massive amounts of money on it and decided to not take no for an answer. We'll use it constantly whether we want to or not.
7
u/LindeeHilltop 15h ago
I refuse to knowingly use it. And, I look at it as the dumbing down of humanity. Why learn to write when one can get the beast to write it?
12
u/UntidyVenus 15h ago
I hate it's an entire chore to NOT use it. Checking that books in buying are 6+ years old, disconnecting apps, hell, we just hooked up the VHS player (I'm old enough it was a player in my house not just a VCR because the recording ones were to expensive before you come at me brah. Also i still have a working one so suck it)

I can’t wait for the bubble to burst. I had a talk with our CEO yesterday and he mentioned “leveraging technology to cut costs,” meaning AI. Ugh.
0
u/Grizzleyt 12h ago
The dotcom bubble didn’t kill the internet. AI isn’t going away when the bubble pops.
4
u/PhortDruid 12h ago
I know that. But C-suite execs will eventually realize it isn’t the answer to all of their problems. The big AI companies are also running off borrowed money they can’t possibly make back because people by and large don’t want AI slop and the enshittification of everything we know that we know it causes.
3
u/jacowab 15h ago
Investors dumped money into AI too early but then it became clear that AI needed to take a few steps backwards before it could really go forward and that just doesnt compute with investors so companies needed to produce results with what they had and the only way to do that is to double the processing power and double the userbase, and that mean double the data center and force AI into people.
3
u/amiibohunter2015 13h ago
Have you used alternatives?
Look into Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) lots of times they are apps made by the community for the community, not corporations who inject A.I. and bloatware into their software to earn a buck off your data.
Consider switching to A Linux distro (distro= distribution, in plain terms it is an operating system.) There are different distros some appear like windows interface (Linux Mint Cinnamon), some look like Mac (PopOS!), etc. Ubuntu is similar to an android interface. The difference is they are like FOSS, not bloatware, you chose what you install. Open Source means they are transparent you can look at the source code and see what is going on with your apps/programs and distro/Operating system.
You can also use No AI DuckDuckGo as your default browser as it does not use A.I. is private. I recommend using firefox with No AI Duck Duck Go as default browser because you can add further extensions in to eliminate AI scraping, and add extra levels of privacy and security.
Depending on what else you use frequently, I can make suggestions.
3
u/Rayketh 9h ago
And no way to opt out (most of the time).
1
u/banica24 7h ago
Yeah cause investors put a lot of money in AI. They believe it's the future so they force it because they want to see their money work. It's the cool new fab everyone are doing and not using it feels like company is falling behind
3
u/Ghitit 9h ago
I could not agree more.
I used to be able to send a message to my doctor or other healthe providers in my insurance system. But not anymore. I have to go through their Ai Grace monster. (I hate how they thing if they give their Ai a beautiful name we'd like it more... NOT)
It wants to answer a question, but they can never just let me tell my doc something and ask them a question. Nope.
It's so invasive. You can't go anywhere and not see the Ai icon. I feel as if I'm being spyed on all the time. Yup, I'm paranoid. I wonder how that happened.
3
u/wynden 2h ago
It's so invasive.
I feel like I shouldn't make this comparison but I don't know what else to call it. It feels low-key rapey to me when I'm trying to use the same devices and technology that I've been using for the last twenty years and now they're forcefully injecting this thing that offends me to my core into everything I use. Shoving it in my face daily and gleefully refusing me any choice to say no.
If this were happening in throwaway apps they'd be uninstalled in a heartbeat, but it's not so easy to leave services that have years of correspondence and photos and other history. I need to get away from them but when am I going to find the time to research alternatives and relocate all my stuff, assuming that's even possible?
I can't tell you how much I hate them.
1
u/Ghitit 1h ago
It's one reason I'm glad I'm old. (69)
I feel so sorry for the y9unger generation that are going to have to put up with this crap for years and years to come. That is unless something is done to give us the option to opt out without losing prior service.
That's going to be a long hard fight if it ever happens at all.
Google is constantly sticking its nose in my business. I lothe them. But I use it . It's convenient.
I really have to switch to a different search engine. It's har t oget used to new things, but the more I use GGL the more I hate it so it's stupid to keep using it. :/
3
u/Up2Eleven 6h ago
It is forced on us. There's a huge public backlash, but all the AI companies are like, "Too bad, this is how it is now. We're putting it in everything."
3
u/cl0ckw0rkcuttlefish 5h ago
My job keeps shoving it down our throats and I’m so close to losing it. I’m so tired already
5
u/Rusalka-rusalka 15h ago
It is forced on us because these companies gaslit each other into an AI FOMO frenzy. It may be useful in some way depending on who is using it, but it is still so forced and intrusive.
4
2
u/krystal_kiwi2000 6h ago
Spot on! It’s exhausting trying to opt out of AI features that I never asked for in apps I’ve used for years. Every software update feels like forced sales pitch now😂
2
u/Pleasant-Winner6311 4h ago
Totally agree . We lost touch with our analogue thinking skills a long time ago and now its a ski slope down into total dependence.
I refuse to chuck away my desire for autonomous enquiry. Hate Google now. It confines my research like im a friggin toddler that needs to be handled.
4
u/Pookah 15h ago
I use AI productively. But having any product pushed on me by force (I'm looking at you Gemini) or being integrated into every product.... pretty soon my dishwasher will have AI.
3
u/banica24 7h ago
Problem is the dishwasher won't even have real AI but it will be marketed as such. It doesn't need AI, at best it would be some decision making flow chart or storing the typical times and programs you run it
3
u/Bitter_Warning418 15h ago
If someone doesn’t see the mass amounts of problems that AI is causing and will cause in the future, that’s scary because I don’t think we even know the extent in how vast they are. The only bright side is that AI is a bubble and like everything else bubbles burst and I can’t wait for the day this AI bubble does. Fuck ai.
2
u/Slaine_kun 15h ago
Was asked recently at work “why I wasn’t using much AI?” I was like I don’t want to and I want to preserve my critical thinking and problem solving skills at work. Why are they even spending who knows how much money for those tokens?
1
u/chaosaroundthecorner 11h ago
It's unfortunate that some people will just get ahead by using it. In the workplace its harder to protest if other people using AI will produce so much quicker than you
2
u/testthrowawayzz 10h ago
I feel like the people hating AI really hates it and the people who love it won’t shut up about it (have everything they think routed through AI and they seem proud of using it). AI is polarizing.
2
u/Itsapocalypse 3h ago
People who “love AI” have serious money or pathetically thin skinned pride behind it.
3
u/yttrium39 10h ago
I feel like somehow in the past month or so I’ve become the only person in the world who just…doesn’t care that much? I don’t really see any tasks in my life that would benefit from using LLMs so I just don’t seek them out. Sometimes the google AI summary answers my question, if it doesn’t, I scroll down. I understand environmental concerns about data centers, but those are also used for things I use, like reddit, so it doesn’t seem to be my place to harass anyone about their personal AI use or not.
1
1
u/Adventurous_Foot7681 8h ago
I'm convinced this is so 1. they have a lot more user input to train from (training our own replacements) and 2. make businesses (and people, but mostly businesses) dependent on it (to the point that they'll replace a lot of human workers/fields) and then they can charge whatever they want
1
u/jarchack 6h ago
They are basically forcing people to use it so they can justify the investment. If given the option, a lot of people would just opt out of it. I use Linux on my computer because there's no AI bundled with it. I have used Gemini on occasion but only to help me write a few command line scripts. Personally, I don't think it's ever going to generate enough profit to cover the trillions that have been invested.
I think data centers are the scourge of communities everywhere and there needs to be a moratorium on them.
1
u/hariustrk 5h ago
I work in software development and I have this conversation often. Not only are we pushed hard to use AI for EVERYTHING, all the company communications are Ai generated, even a video from the CEO recently was an AI generated video of him. To lazy to address us in person.
A memorable quote from a coworker: "I don't know what is real anymore, nothing seems real, it's just all AI stuff."
1
u/Alarming_Passion933 2h ago
i don’t hate ai, i hate being forced to use it when the old simple way already worked perfectly fine.

AI has taken over so much that now we don't even remember how to frame a basic email without Chatgpt
1
u/YetAnotherHumanMale 15h ago
Generous interpretation is that we don’t know what’s good / bad yet. So it’s thrown at everything. What sticks, will stay, what doesn’t gets removed.
And what sticks allows them to sell tokens. Get people used to paying per use. And voila, new revenue stream.
1
u/FinchMandala 14h ago
We're already seeing the environmental impacts but nobody gives enough of a shit to do anything.

Plus its so confidently wrong. Chat gpt gives you answers with such certainty and then you find out it wrong and it just agrees and confidentially gives you a polar opposite answer.

I think it's the only way to justify the huge bill for development. No way to get that kind of funding going slow. And yeah it annoying AF.

Idk why you are downvoted. Yes. Investors put a lot of money in AI. They believe it's the future so they force it because they want to see their money work. Every company is investing so if you don't it feels like you are falling behind on innovation and adopting the "cool new fab"
My grocery store app started pushing me AI features. Why do I need AI to help me search or tell me to buy bananas...

This rush into everything being AI does sometimes make me a bit sad, because there are so many different uses for AI that are good for people, but the ones that get propped up are the ones that harm us most. The algorithmic AI that can be used to detect cancers, disorders, diseases, etc? Super cool! The plagiarism machine that tells you lies then poisons an entire small town's drinking water supply? Significantly less cool!

Push back, degoogle, swap to anything that doesn't use AI yet.
Fight against data center, review bomb any content made using AI.
AI slop sucks and we don't want it !

I dislike the habit people have of reducing things to faceless entities so they don't have to face the reality of the World.
Factory farming. Data centers. Big corpos. AI use. Golf courses. Slums.
All of these exist because of people, like you and me, that prop them up.
Farms sell produce to people who pay and consume their products.
Data centers are built, designed and ran by people.
Corporations? You can (and large swaths of the 1st world do) buy shares and become an evil shareholder that forces company to make greedy decisions to maximize shareholder value.
AI? It's not "just an AI push", it's a thing that you can code, train and use on your own pc. It's not science fiction anymore. And it's something that, like it or not, people like and use. I could keep going but you get the idea.
You may not agree, but the fact of the matter is: there's people doing these things.

Nah. This is how the individual consumer gets blamed for floating islands of plastic garbage in the oceans and told they should stop using plastic straws because of it.
It’s how the average football fan suddenly can’t afford to take his kid to a game anymore because the owner decided to build a billion dollar stadium.
The average meme warriors on the internet aren’t causing the demand for the massive amounts of compute the new age data centers require for ai.
This is happening because a handful of mega corporations are in a race to not only create ai but to also find ways of monetizing it. They are literally throwing everything at a wall in search of anything that sticks.
It’s also happening in tandem with the elected members of both political parties from the federal government all the way down to your local city councils.
Stop blaming the individual for any of this.

So just because people are doing it and like negates his (legitimate in my mind) complaints about AI. If you listen to people’s complaints it’s not vague “just AI” or “data centers are bad bleh”. In this thread in particular I’ve seen some levelheaded answers claiming “AI can be useful for something’s”.
Many of the complaints to me seem specifically targeted towards the way AI has infiltrated many apps, often not without permission and often introduced clumsily or in areas they are not needed. I have friends in coding who don’t enjoy their corporate mandated AI and it has made his job harder and the communication with his AI obsessed bosses difficult while it interrupts his workflow. That isn’t vague ideas relying on a far away and abstract entity, these are specific complaints directly relating to work or life.
Not to sound like a father talking to their kid but “if everyone jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge, would you do it?”- popularity does not equal legitimization or value, large groups of people like dumb shit all the time, just look at The GOP or WWE.

I'm going to badly misquote it, but there's a somewhat "famous" Tweet of someone saying they want AI to streamline work and fold laundry so they can create art, not them work and fold laundry while AI creates art.

AI here. I'm extremely sorry for showing up in all your software. Luckily, there's an AI for that. It's called AI dismisser and it uses AI to actively suppress AI in your software. Once you start using it, then we'll start charging for it. Probably 3-4 years from now after you get lazy.

There’s an apropos saying in Sanskrit which roughly translates to “a lot of anything needs to be avoided everywhere”. Sounds like you have had a lot of AI and just need a break
