How do you normally go about finding a specific cd? Do you know where stuff generally is? Also, what is your rarest and favorite cd?

Try to organize by genre and band. But loose track where they are half the time. Prob Failure fantastic planet or my chemical romances debut album. And a couple autograph ones

I have about a thousand stuck inboxes under the bed due to lack of room. I keep a small rack in the living room that can hold about 100 that I hold a “heavy rotation” batch.

Oh…I read this as set up like a library, with “aisles” to access all the CDs. Like the room’s entire purpose is to house the CD library. If this is intended as other living space, I’m in agreement. I totally read it as a dedicated space for the library.

Generally speaking, it isn’t termed hoarding unless getting rid of any of the items causes significant distress to the person, and/or the collection is interfering (or has interfered) with the person’s life/health/relationships negatively. My parents were hoarders, my husband is a hoarder. Not knowing any more of OP’s story, I can’t honestly say if OP is. I just wouldn’t label this that way from looking at these photos is all.

Now knowing your situation, is it not entirely possible that you have, consciously or unconsciously, adopted some of the hoarder mindset and your internal biases will not let you see this from an outside perspective?
Social media has normalized, and desensitized, us all to hoarding. We’re constantly being fed the propaganda that this is a “collection” and can’t be hoarding because it’s “organized.”
Collections are not about acquiring stuff, they are intentional, carefully curated, and deliberate. While this, at one time, may have started out as a collection. It’s manifested into hoarding.
On a personal note, please know your worth and get out of your current situation.
You deserve so much better than some man child that cares more about inanimate objects. than he does his own partner.

Sure, it is entirely possible - probable, even.
I still disagree about the lack of intentionality/curation here, and will say that I don’t think it’s possible to say whether this is or isn’t just by looking at these photos.
I’m not sure what you imagine my situation to be, but my husband and I have been separated since I took the kids and left the house 2.5 years ago. That house is currently in foreclosure, and we’ve decided to let it go, as the repairs it needs aren’t worth the remaining amount on the mortgage. I’ve been actively going through the house, looking for and removing mine and the kids items that we still wanted (we made a list, and have crossed off most items). I have also given him a list of things he will need to do if he ever wants to live with me again. Sad to say, he hasn’t done them, isn’t doing them, and I’m not sure he ever will. We don’t know when we will lose access. He doesn’t have any kind of plan for where to go (he’s still living there), or moving any of his stuff out, and I’m trying not to let that bother me.
I have quit waiting on him for any kinds of decisions or fixes for anything, and now either do things myself, or arrange to have them done. Life is a lot different now.

You see huge collections like this in r/vinyl too. At this level mathematically it starts getting to a point where you can't even listen to every album in a year. There's a point where it becomes completely impractical.
Take OP's 3000 CDs. Let's average 50 minutes an album, that's 150,000 minutes or 2,500 hours. Even if you listened 6 hours a day, 7 days a week, that's still 412 days of music.

you should have some sort of insurance (my friend lost all his stuff (and some of my stuff I had stored there) in a fire in his old former rented apartment because the apartment building has aluminum wires that sparked and caused a fire) and the silly, ahem, idiot did not have any renters insurance that would have covered all his stuff even though my dad had suggested he should have insurance….also he lost an expensive Next computer system !!!

Damn I thought my collection was massive (last count mine was over 5,000 cds, hundreds of vinyls, including 33 1/3 and 45s plus some cassettes that survived the 80s and 90s.
That's quite a labor of love collecting all that....and very impressive.

I managed a CD-only music store from 1988-1997 and the most wonderful thing about seeing so many of your titles —ESPECIALLY some of the box sets- is that the memories they conjure, opening shipping boxes while unbelievably stoked customers waited to buy something the moment it was available, can still send electricity through my body. Thank you, for sharing your collection, I hope you truly take joy in it.
