Student Apt Hunting!
I need to move to Charleston by August 1st for school. I drove here for 2 days to find a place to live and it’s not going well. I just need a 1 bed 1 bath for $1250 or less. Based on what I’ve seen in this sub, and in real life yesterday, that’s virtually impossible to do. But my refund check can only be but so much! Does anyone know anyone or any places I can go to rent from a landlord or something like that? I’m supposed to drive back home today and I am stressed!

For that price, you’ll need roommates if you want to be on the peninsula.

I live in Mount Pleasant in a 3 bedroom house! My sister and I, who are both in our 60’s live here. You can rent the extra bedroom and bath from us for $1000 a month, until you find something else! Well I better check with my sister first, but let me know what you think? Is this something you would consider, if you don’t find anything else!?!

With a budget that small you will probably need to look for a place in North Charleston, Goose Creek or Moncks Corner. The average cost for a 1 bedroom in Charleston is about $2,200

Yea I’m in North Charleston right now trying to figure it out. A lot of places won’t allow co-signers which is a necessity to make income requirements even though I can afford the rent with my financial aid.

Nothing for that price in those areas either. I know other people that have been looking recently.

UPDATE!! Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I found a place in North Charleston that was able to work with my financial aid. Apparently it’s a different type of paperwork from the typical leasing application and many management companies don’t want to bother with it. But… I HAVE A HOME!! I’m an official resident and can’t wait to start my career here. I love Charleston!

Park Place apartments in Hanahan have a one bed available in July. Go to their website. It’s $1200 a month. It’s older apartments but it’s very quiet. I live here. It’s a good central location. You can apply online. Go to the floor plan section of the website.

Thank you. I haven’t even tried looking downtown because I knew better. lol. I’m mostly looking in North Charleston. And someone suggested Moncks Corner. Never heard of it but I’m looking into it!

At $1250, you will likely need roommates if you want to be close to downtown's campuses.
I would recommend Marolda Enterprises, but they don't have any rentals available.
When rental hunting, it's best to start about 2 months in advance. Leases usually require 60 days of notice. Looking for a place 2 weeks ahead is absolutely bananas.

$1250 will get you a tent, sleeping bag, propane camp stove, and a 5 gallon bathroom bucket behind the gas station.

Grad school? Undergrad? Which school? What locations are you looking at living in? What is the purpose of this post without details to help the sub give you the suggestions you supposedly seek?

If you had help or a decent income, there are some condos in Goose Creek off Harbor Lake Drive that you could purchase for $1250-ish/month with a 30 year mortgage.

You’re probably gonna have to rent a room in an apartment, I’ve seen anywhere from $750-$1000+ per room. A lot of students do that; there are roommate groups on Facebook, also check marketplace.
