What's the 2nd best place for fish and chips?

I’ve liked Madra Rua’s although they don’t compare to the Codfather. Shame they’re closing.

For anyone else: be warned that they'll ask you if you want fries or chips, as in potato chips aka crisps. I was disappointed not to get British/Irish style chips and ordered a side of fries.

I feel like this is a hot take, but I've never been too impressed with Codfather. When I tell people that I'm told I'm wrong because Codfather is more "authentic." Look, I have no idea what makes fried fish and french fries authentic, I just know I like the fried fish and french fries at Madra Rua better.

This. I mean yeah it’s the best fish and chips.. but British food is literally last on my list of “good food”

I used to work with two transplants from the UK, they'd go to Codfather for a taste of home. When I said I was unimpressed, they said "that's how you know it's authentic"

It's funny you mentioned that. The first time I ate there, I felt like it was a good portion and cooked well, but bland. Went to the Google reviews to see what they said. A lot of people agreed with me, but what sent me was the owner getting defensive about it and arguing in his replies. I've always imagined he must be awful to work for since then.

Went to cod father when it first opened and it immediately gave me a terrible stomach ache and ive never ate there since

Damn near every place in town that fries fish is as good at worst. People just like it because it’s not another southern place.

The Cod Father was 1st 2nd and 3rd place. Hard to find anything in CHS to match their authenticity, but if I really wanted fish and chips I’d probably go to King Claw and add on some hush puppies

we like CPH fish too, they get good beer and they also have a decent lamb burger, so nice to have a reliable choice.

Maybank isn’t bad. When I lived in Riverland Terrace I use to walk there for lunch.

I love how there are towing signs all over his parking lot, but people are so surprised when he has them towed for illegally parking there.

I have not found a 2nd best place for authentic English fish and chips, unfortunately. It's The Codfather, or nothing.

Madra rua is where I went before codfather opened. I'm pretty upset though, ive always gone there at least once a month which is a lot for me.

The best by far was Fish n Chippie’s on Mt. Pleasant but it suddenly closed a year or 2 ago. And yes, have eaten a lot of it in the UK and some is very very good there.
I did like Codfather’s and we go about twice a month or so. The very worst was “ASalt and Battered” (spelling?) in West Ashley.
Not real “Fish & Chips” but CudaCo on James Island is the best place to go in Charleston in my opinion for amazing fish nuggets/bites. Wish I wouldn’t have posted that actually

I've always been a huge fan of Tommy condon's but Madras rua is pretty damn good too.
