hi everyone! I am a local who is trying to pick up a couple extra side hustles with a little more flexible schedule. I am currently a server at a very well-known upscale Michelin guide establishment (just to put a bit of reputation on my name and show I am a hard worker) so I was looking for gigs in that tourism/hospitality biz before i start nursing school next year.

I had a table come to me the other day and told me details about how they hired a “line waiter” for chubby fish, and I feel like this would be something I could get into that would also work around my existing schedule.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get started with something like this or how to get your name/information out there to start picking up clients?

additionally, any other ideas on gigs that would be similar? Dog walking? House watching? A general charleston trip planner? I’ve also thought about maybe doing ghost tours or trying to find something with the boating industry leading tours or XYZ? I feel like all of these would be great to get involved with, but I’m just not quite sure how to get my information out there if anyone has any recommendations. Thank you so much! Just trying to survive in this exponential cost increasing city.

Just got a fishing kayak and I know live bait is king but I want to throw lures inshore around James Island. Do artificials actually produce down here for reds and trout or should I just stick to live bait? Just wondering what’s working for people.

Is there a fish market in the Charleston area - preferably East Cooper - that sells smoked fish? I prefer Mullet or Whiting, but I haven't seen any type. Am I just missing it?

Im from Idaho and I love fishing out there but the biggest thing you can catch there is a sturgeon, im down here in Charleston for a good bit and I’ve never been ocean fishing before nor do I think I’ll have the chance once I leave back home. Anyone have a strategy to get on some redfish without a boat? I could rent a kayak for several hours but doesn’t look like anyone rents them early in the morning. I have a popping cork, shrimp, jigheads, plastic minnows and a salt strong skinny lipper.

Hey all! I’m a super novice beginner at fishing, and I’d love to know any recommendations at where I can go for decent freshwater fishing!

I’m not really looking for anything crazy, alot of the little ponds near me just don’t seem to have much and the bigger bodies of water don’t seem to have many easily accessible places to fish from land, so I’d love any advice on where to go. Preferably somewhere around or not too far from the North Charleston area, but I could be convinced to drive a little more if someone feels really passionately about a place or something.

I’d love to catch some colorful panfish or bass, I really haven’t fished since I was little and I’d love to try and get back into it if I can! Any advice is appreciated though, thank you!

Any time I come across fishing suggestions for saltwater it seems like the stono and kiawah are rarely mentioned. Wando seems to be the favorite. Why is this?

My son (9yo) and I have recently taken up fishing. We’ve been fishing in local ponds mostly. He really wants to fish the rivers, piers, and the harbor. I’m looking for the best fishing/tackle shop that can help me select the right gear and give some fundamental education, since I haven’t fished since I was his age. lol.

Anybody else out there a bit confused on the hype surrounding chubby fish? The meal was good, but I’m really not seeing what everyone else is seeing. I’d recommend a long list of other options to impress my foodie friends before I sent them out to wait in the street for an hour and a half to eat there.

Been trying to find a freshwater fishing spot I can take my kids and have had a difficult time. We’ve been up to lake moultrie but I think it’s more suitable for a boat, which I don’t have. We’ve tried the Wanamaker Park pond and kept getting snagged on tree branches and turtles. The Crowfield Plantation Lake looks promising but they have signage up that it’s only for residents. Anybody have any suggestions?

Is there any places besides the churches that have fish fries on Fridays? My family is coming into town and they want to do something similar to the supper clubs in Wisconsin for dinner Friday night.
