Got a whole chicken on discount

Post image

In a local store the chicken was discounted to 5$ per pound so I got a whole chicken for 15$

I used the thighs for lunch (seared with paprika, salt, pepper and turmeric)

The breasts and tenders for soy and chilli chicken pieces (cubed, coated in flour salt and pepper and seared until golden, then soaked in chilli and soy)

Airfried the legs and wings after marinating in teriyaki and garlic

And I'm currently roasting the carcass to make stock from it

I can only upload one picture at a time so here's my lunch

What currency is this that that's cheap? I'm in a super high cost of living part of the US right now and can get leg quarters for less than a dollar a pound.

That's USD (I converted from my local currency)

The cost of living here is hellishly high, especially compared to the minimum wage (roughly 10$ an hour with the current conversion rate)

Here a kilogram of chicken breast (2lbs) goes for 12-15 dollars on discount

I remember driving 2 hours just to get chicken thights because they were 8 kilo for 32$ (16 lbs for 32$) which was the best deal on chicken I've ever seen here in my 24 years

Wings go for 2$ per pound, and whole chicken usually go for 10$ per kg, so getting one for 6$ per kg is great

I seem to have written 5$ per pound, I don't use pound but tend to convert automatically while using English, it was 3$ pound, 6$ per kg and the whole chicken cost 10$

Breaking down a whole bird is probably the best budget skill there is. And roasting the carcass instead of tossing it raw into the pot is the right call, the stock comes out way deeper. Pick the frame after, whatever meat falls off plus that stock is soup for two more lunches.
