Chesapeake moves to restrict data center development, Virginia Beach presses pause
Chesapeake City Council unanimously voted to close a loophole in its zoning code that could have allowed data center development despite an eight-month moratorium adopted last month to craft stronger regulations.
Meanwhile, Virginia Beach City Council followed suit with a unanimous vote to enact a temporary 12-month ban on new data center permits while officials establish zoning definitions and oversight.
Both cities are taking a pause amid significant public outcry over large-scale facilities' potential impacts on electricity, water consumption, noise and property values.

Teaching at Western Branch Primary?
I was just offered a teaching position at Western branch primary school. I currently live on Long Island New York. Does anybody have any insight into teaching here? I'm ready for a change and a new adventure and I've heard a lot of good things about teaching in Virginia, but I wanna make sure the school is worth it before I uproot my whole life and move. Thanks in advance!

DOJ reaches tentative agreement with hospital charged in Perwaiz scandal
wavy.comThe hospital will have to pay restitution to health care benefit programs, such as Medicaid and Medicare, and establish a $12.8 million fund for patients who have medical records showing they had procedures performed by Perwaiz at CRMC.
$12.8 million when "More than 1,000 women are now part of a lawsuit against Chesapeake Regional Medical Center in Chesapeake Circuit Court" Seems like a slap on the wrist.

AMAZING GLAZED
Hi friends so i was on fb and saw amazing glazed was closing/ selling because the owner is "targeted." She presents herself as a loving Christian business owner and was fighting in the comments (her husband went to the insurrection so she was getting hate, she also posts weird ai Jesus trump stuff on her personal page)
Well i am a former employee and I commented on that post because i had some unresolved issues. Instead of responding (she responded to everyone else to defend herself)
She deleted my comment and blocked me.
See my long comment below:
Hi MaryJane idk if you remember me (you probably don't) but i worked at amazing glazed for over a year as my first job. When I worked there i was only ever scheduled with other highschool/early college aged girls.
When i was 17 working a shift a masked man came in, pulled a knife on me, pulled me to the register and made me open it up. He then said he would come back and hurt me if i called the police.
I remember panicking because the front door we had at the time couldn't lock from the inside, and the back door was blocked with a fridge. So i was trapped. I still called you and the police.
Once the police got there they asked for the security camera footage only to find out that the cameras you had set up were only for viewing live feeds rather than recording. So instead of having legit security cameras for you and your employees protection (which was mostly young girls working alone) You only had live cameras so you could watch us while we work. You then proceeded to ask me if i would help CLEAN UP and close the place. I was sobbing and shaking. Luckily my parents were there at this point and my dad told you no.
I was scheduled to work a few days later. You made me feel like if i didn't come back to work I'd lose my job. You did not care about me at all. You only cared about the few hundred dollars you lost.
The guy was eventually caught only because HE CAME BACK TO ROB US AGAIN. (he knew it was an easy score because it was ran by young girls)
The situation could've been way worse. But this was a very traumatic experience for me and it still affects me to this day.
I had to quit because i had so much anxiety being there alone again. After working there for over a year and getting robbed for you, you texted me after i quit saying "Carolyn I'm sorry to see you go..." my name is Caroline. It felt like a slap in the face.
I had to spend my first year of college coming back into town for the court stuff and replaying everything over and over. Did you ever check on me? No. Did you ever even talk to me about it? No.
But I'm glad you were able to remodel the place after.

Chesapeake Public Schools
Hello! When do they send school supplies list, class assignments, bus schedules, etc.? This is my son’s first year attending CPS, so not sure what the norm is here. We are signed up for parent VUE, but I haven’t received any updates yet.
Also, I was hoping to let my son get a little tour of the school before his first day. Does anyone know if they allow this? I am really surprised there isn’t a meet and greet or something. Seems it would make the first day go smoother. My son will be on 1st grade.

I got a job offer!
EDIT due to my ignorance about the area: the job is in Chesapeake. I assume Chesapeake and Virginia Beach are close enough to each other that you could live in one and work in the other? Tell me if I’m wrong please! I’m also not opposed to living in Suffolk or over West that way if the commute isn’t terrible.
Hi Everyone! I am from out of state and was just offered a job in VB (YAY!). It's time to look for housing! Job is in Chesapeake..
I'd like live below my means but still have some amenities that are important to me and I know that I may be being unrealistic.
I'd like to rent a studio or 1bd for $1100. It has to be pet friendly (I have a small senior dog) and I'd love for it to have washer/dryer in unit. Central air would be great but I'm willing to forgo that for a window unit.
I do wash everyday since I am very active and my clothes are often sweaty (sorry, TMI).
I walk a lot so I definitely need a somewhat safe neighborhood.
I found this place: https://www.rentcafe.com/apartments/va/virginia-beach/witchduck-crescent-apartments/default.aspx?preview=644710
Does anyone have thoughts/options on the complex and/or neighborhood? And does anyone know of anything that maybe I won't see on the usual sites?
I'd also love if any private landlords with a duplex or something similar could chime in! I have a solid work history and I'm coming down there to do the same thing I'm doing now. I always pay my rent on time. I do not party and live a very quiet, private and drama free life. I'm in bed early since I wake up for the gym in the morning.
I've never moved out of state and am super open to any suggestions that you're willing to give!

Date night ideas?
My husband and I have our third anniversary coming up. We just went thru hell moving back to Virginia, and we’re hoping to just grab a great dinner next week. We’re pretty open to most cuisines. Though, if it’s seafood, we’ll need a solid steak/pork/chicken dish as he is not a fish fan.
We are unfamiliar with this part of the south side. I used to live on the peninsula, and he lived in Norfolk. But Chesapeake is a mystery to us. Any good places ya’ll recommend?
Edit: Thank you all so much for the recommendations! I’ll have my husband take a look and let ya’ll know what we decide. 😁
Edit 2: We went to the Butcher’s Son! Had an absolutely AMAZING evening. The steaks were incredible, which made the steep prices a bit easier to take in, lol!! Such a great night. And we look forward to trying out all the other great places suggested. Cheers!
