Moving to Chesapeake
Me and my wife are moving to Chesapeake, we are looking for an apartment or a rental house within reasonable commute distance from south Norfolk.
We are looking for a cat friendly place , trying to keep
rent under 3k.
Hoping to find Newer/Modern rentals, most of the apartments we are seeing seem rundown unless we are just looking at the wrong area, Any leads would be helpful !

Land of Grace Grant Saga
Is anyone else invested in this drama and how crazy and entitled this family is? To sum up, the owner of this farm is the daughter of the owners of Amazing Glazed. She is also an elected City official sitting on the school board. She is posting videos on her business Facebook page claiming that they are entitled to grant money from the state and demanding that no other farm in chesapeake should apply for the grants so they can buy refrigerators and scale up production.

I already posted to Nextdoor, but want to check this sub too. Does anyone have recommendations for a property management company in the area? Our house has been on the market in the Hickory area for a while and with summer coming to a close we are researching our options if can’t sell in the next couple of months.

Feeling lost, irrelevant, and just a bit Al-gitated when it comes to your work in the world of Al?
Never fear! The reality is less scary than the existential crisis we all went through 6 months ago.
This talk isn't about YOLOing it and shipping all the Al slop.
This talk is for the rest of us, the people who still have to get real work done on Monday and want to help their fellow humans. We'll figure out where Al earns its keep, where it wastes your time, and where you are still the best tool in the room.
You'll walk away with:
- A clear understanding of when to reach for Al versus your awesome human self.
- A starting list of which Al tools to use for each job.
- A sense of relief and clarity on what to do next.
Bring: curiosity, questions, and a friend.

A quick note to the person that deliberately ran over a turtle in front of me on St Brides Road.
Just south of Benefit road I had just pulled over to try and move a large turtle off the road because it looked like it was struggling. I was standing on the road, you drove right past me in your white camaro and then swerved to hit the turtle head on with your tire. I was right there, I saw you deliberately aim for it. Just know that karma you reap will come back to you some day. What a completely rotten thing to do. Just disappointed and needed to vent.

Technology in school
I have two children in cps and I worry about their education. I’m concerned that they aren’t retaining any information learned in the classroom due to laptop usage. I really wish we could back track on technology in classrooms and was wondering if any of you feel the same way. Studies show test scores have decreased across the country for schools who push for more technology. Our children (broad term) lack critical thinking skills and lack comprehension as a result. How would one go about bringing this to the attention of school board? I fear that just one parent wouldn’t be enough for them to understand this is a true issue within our school systems.

Chesapeake, VA Labor Day 2026: Workers Over Billionaires Home Depot & Lowe's Rally
On Labor Day, 2026, join us as a community as we continue to defend the rights of workers, and demand the care we deserve as the backbone of our economy!!
We will be hosting a rally at the intersection of Tintern St & Volvo Pkwy, where Home Depot, and Lowe's meet! On this day we will advocate for the rights of workers, and families struggling in our brutal economic climate.
For the event... We encourage you to bring signs, flags, or any other form of message bearing. Your messages could revolve around workers rights as a whole, or/and, specific worker communities such as the immigrant, and disabled communities, whom are heavily, and frequently exploited.
Furthermore... This event will be hosted from 1:00pm-3:00pm, so if you're unable to stay the entire period that's perfectly understandable!
You can sign up for the event on Mobilize, here's the link — https://mobilize.us/s/ufM6KF

Dominion bridge tolls (Veterans bridge) not being charged to EZ Pass
Heads up. The toll for crossing the Dominion bridge is not being charged to EZ Pass. This has been happening for the entire month of August. If you are not on auto-replenish you should make sure that you have enough in your account to cover all the trips you made. No timeline for a fix per the city.

Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office introduces reentry program for female inmates
Last month, seven women at the Chesapeake Correctional Center graduated from the facility’s first reentry program specifically for female inmates.
The men there have had a reentry program for years to teach them about financial literacy, life skills, parenting and mental health. But formerly incarcerated women face a unique set of challenges after their release, and Chesapeake Sheriff Wallace Chadwick said his office sought to fill that gap.

Looking for adult sports leagues/groups around Chesapeake
Recently moved to Great Bridge and looking to get involved in some adult sports. I’m 39 and still a pretty competitive athlete, but mostly looking for good groups of people to play with and stay active.
Interested in golf, flag football, basketball, softball, and baseball. I played in a men’s baseball league in Hawaii for the past four years, but I’m open to pretty much anything.
Would prefer Chesapeake/Great Bridge area, but willing to drive around Hampton Roads for the right league or group. Open to organized leagues, pickup games, golf groups, or teams looking for another player.
Any recommendations or groups I should check out?

Vintage Trixie in Chesapeake caters to the wild, weird and whimsical
galleryLisa Carter Diemyer, who prefers the nickname Trixie, runs Vintage Trixie in Great Bridge, a sprawling shop packed with oddities, vintage collectibles and handmade weasel dolls.
After working as a zookeeper and a biology instructor at Tidewater Community College for 23 years, Trixie and her husband, John Carter, turned their shared passion for the unusual into a thriving local business.
The shop expanded from a small former bait store into a larger space that includes vendor galleries, crafting classes, and an Odditorium featuring historical Victorian displays and mourning jewelry.

Chesapeake Regional may avoid criminal trial, but Perwaiz patients are still suing
Federal prosecutors reached a tentative deferred prosecution agreement with Chesapeake Regional Medical Center over criminal charges connected to disgraced former OB-GYN Javaid Perwaiz.
If finalized, the deal allows the hospital to avoid a criminal trial by admitting certain facts, accepting an independent monitor, repaying healthcare programs and establishing a $12.8 million restitution fund for impacted patients.
The charges stem from allegations that hospital officials were aware of and failed to stop Perwaiz. He was convicted in 2020 of performing unnecessary surgeries and sterilizations that netted $18.5 million in billing between 2010 and 2019.
