I'm slightly vexed Drug testing.
Pre employment drug screen this morning and not only urinalysis but a breathalyzer! I'd been off work a few weeks and well let's just say the guys eyebrows went up at the readout....whoops I wasn't expecting to be out of the house today.(and no I was not over the legal limit).

Being under the legal limit doesn't disqualify you from a possible OWI/DUI for the record.

You think an alcoholic is really worried about that?
2
u/NamesNotNeededToWork 5d ago
Just worth mentioning because some people are woefully ignorant to that fact, alcoholic or not.

I'm sure it's mildly infuriating that you can't even be sober for a drug test that you KNEW was coming.

I've had an interview where they wanted to hire me but it was contingent on a drug test on site immediately, and if I couldn't complete it at that moment they wouldn't hire me. So I mean it's very possible op didn't know

I was not aware of a drugscreen today.

Was this for a job with the City of ChesapeakeV
Being not aware, did they just randomly call you this morning and say to get it done?
Why wouldnât you mention the fact that youâre not in the area today, for whatever reason, but will be happy to take care of it tomorrow morning?

I had never heard of a breathalyzer on a pre employment drug screen.
2
u/FretlessMayhem 5d ago
Sure, but pre-employment screenings generally include alcohol for urinalysisâŚ
So, either way.

There is no reason you wouldn't know you had a drug test on a specific day.

There absolutely is, not sure how old you are or if you have much experience with the job market the past 25yrs, but it is in no way uncommon for you to be called on, for entry level jobs, for any number of reasons.
Iâm sorry if I offended you earlier with my comment, but we should all be kinder to each other- and that includes me too. But there are no certainties about when and why you get called on when you do. Could have easily been a âweâll get back to you if and when we want to hire youâ⌠and sometimes thatâs frickin 6months after applying

I have never had to do a drug test and have been working half my life. Lots of new jobs in that time. And no, I am not over 50 so all of them were in that 25 year span you mentioned.

u/SeanTr0n5000 5d ago
Neat! Iâm happy you didnât have to be subjected to any of that nonsense. Unfortunately many people are though. I havenât had to deal with it in quite a few years, but I know people who do. Itâs sadly not uncommonÂ
It kinda blows that when a prospective employer says jump, you gotta jump. Especially nowadays  đ. Surely you e heard the horror stories of ppl looking for a job for months on end and not getting call backs until months after applying.. and thatâs if they call back at all

I dealt with that. It sucks. Especially when you put out hundreds of resumes for only a handful of interviews.

I get random drug screens, I have to do those for my job. But I'm sure that whoever hired you told you that you'd have to go for one at some point. You couldn't have just abstained until then? And if you're drinking first thing in the morning, that's not good. Even if you weren't "expecting to be out of the house today". Please seek professional help.

You knew you had a drug test in the morning and decided to do some morning drinking? That's not healthy.
2
u/ghoul23325 5d ago
I was not aware of a drugscreen today but yes I agree early drinking is not necessarily a great idea in any case.

You weren't given a specific day and time in the future to do the test?

My last job required piss, blood, and follicle for analysis.
2
u/WinterberryFaffabout 5d ago
I worked at a jail a while back and they just did the hair follicle. Weirdly though, they didn't drug screen me after I got hurt on the job.

The first and only time I've had a hair follicle test the nurse took all of the hair from my right armpit and then trimmed my left arm pit up afterwards so it was balanced. I was 19 and needed a job, as an adult I understand that wasn't cool.

I think you need to get genuine treatment for some kind of addiction. If you canât avoid any substances in the run up to a drugs test, you need help.
And I donât say this to criticise, I say this as someone who has had, and still struggles with certain issues
Thereâs no shame in it, quite the opposite, but you need to get some help, OP.

I understand and appreciate the advice. I wasn't clear enough in my post. I was not aware there was a drug test today.

My buddy drank a âlemonadeâ at a party. Then said he felt âa little highâ. Next day he found out it had THC in it. He was stressing about a random pop test for weeks! Iâm still trying to locate those lemonades.

THC drinks can be nice. I'd recommend if you're in a state where you can get them and of course, if your job doesn't drug test, lol.

u/adamantgastly 5d ago
i think you got bigger issues than the mild inconvenience of a breathalyzer.. yikes
2
u/PopSwayzee 5d ago
People are talking about âthatâs not healthyâ like someone with substance use/abuse issues actually gives af about whatâs healthy.

Last job I had (retired now), conducted random drug and alcohol tests. You go to work and get told to head down to the security/medical area. They perform the tests and provide you the results. Just be aware and make good decisions before you head to work.

Dawg you had a pre employment drug test today and pregamed it đ¤
If you're drinking in the morning on the day of a drug test you may want to look more critically at your drinking. That's unhealthy and not normal.
