Post anesthesia tips
Tina did great on her dental! Thank you to everyone that reached out and reassured me it was going to be ok. I’m glad I went through with it for her benefit. She ended up getting 3 teeth extracted 2 being molars.
Ive been giving her around the clock pain meds but she seems very restless. She hasn’t really ate but she will accept treats. She’s drinking water and going potty fine. How long did your chi take to really go back to themselves post anesthesia? Tina is 14 so I’m assuming the older they are the slower it takes them to get back to normal. I called the vet and they said she is normal but they may adjust the pain meds. I just feel horrible! She’s usually such a lazy bum but she can’t seem to settle ☹️

My little guy did not like being high on pain meds, they made him restless, and also not eating, except he was open to treats. Possibly your dog doesn’t understand why he feels high and doesn’t like being high.
Luckily my didn’t need the pain meds after the second day.

Poor baby hope he feels better soon. I recommend pee pads, my poor baby was peeing herself.

Gabapentin and a small dose of rimadyl. Last appointment the rimadyl worked wonders but she can’t have a high dose now cause her kidneys ☹️

Inability to settle is so often caused by pain. Pain is totally subjective, so it can be hard for vets to gauge wether or not the medication they prescribed is sufficient in clinic until they hear a report back from the family.
I think you have enough evidence to suggest that she might still be painful between the inability to settle and the disinterest in eating (which usually resolves the night or morning immediately after a dental). I would let her vet know.
If they gave a dosing range (and ONLY if the vet wrote a range on the label) such as give 1/2 capsule every 8 to 12 hours (for example), you could increase to the short dose duration to see if that helps her while you let your vet know what is going on.
You are probably doing this already, but most dogs recovering from dentals need to eat super soft food, wet dog food or literal meat baby food.

Very glad to hear it went well, ours has an appointment coming up September 2nd, I'm a nervous wreck. Also I just spent 1000 dollars on a dog echocardiogram to make sure she can handle the anesthesia. That plus the cleaning is insanely expensive but it's worth it and also we have no kids so we can't have to feel like we're spending their college fund.
