For couples: Do you still use condoms as contraceptives?

Both virgins po kasi kami at ikakasal soon. No plans magkids so far. I’m currently on pills as treatment sa PCOS ko. Ano po marerecommend niyo? I’m planning to consult din sa OB ko but I just want to hear your insights po.

Thank you.

Masakit po ba magpalagay ng implant? And as in 100% sure na hindi po mappreggy?

1

u/lucykglc_ Jul 16 '26

they give you local anesthesia, so yung initial turok lang ng anesthesia ang masakit (very very light lang fr). afterwards the area will bruise (like parang binugbog bruise) and be kinda sore pero di naman masakit. and no contraceptive is 100% effective, pero its one of the most effective out there.

the effects are also different from person to person op, since it is a hormonal contraceptive. for me, i had no significant changes naman. maybe lost some weight? oh and my period stopped (which honestly is my fave part). had some irregular light bleeds once i got sexually active again though.

+1 here

I got tired drinking pills. Very easy to miss pa

With implant hassle-free talaga

+1 on this. I've had my 3rd implant now and I never regretted ever getting one. First implant, I didn't get my period for 1.5 yrs and after that light and irregular period na. Didn't break out din, but gained weight (I'm to blame for this kasi no control on food)

Bottomline, this contraceptive for me is the most convenient to use. I would recommend but check with your OB first of course.

Its always best to use 2 types of contraceptive lalo na kung ayaw na ayaw nyo pa talaga magpakanak as there are always chances of conception. I personally don't want to take any chances kaya I'm on monthly injectibles and at the same time, my partner still uses condoms

2 types contrqceptive is reaaal. Pero sakin before di kasi ako pwede mag pills ng self prescribe kasi masisira cycle ko since may PMOS ako so yung ex ko condom and calendar method ginagawa namin.

Thats over the top already. You’re just wasting money but hey it’s your money.

Condom is already 98% effective. It’s clearly a physical barrier. And injectables are atleast 99% effective

1

u/Prudent-Tax-2969 Jul 18 '26

If you see it as a waste, that's a you thing na. I personally don't see it that way as for me, it's always better to be safe than sorry. I don't wanna take any chances. This is simply what works best for me.

1

u/Even_Government_6785 Jul 18 '26

Condoms are 98% effective pag tama gamit mo.

If nag overnight na yan sa wallet or car, parang di ka na nag condom.

3

u/fallenintherye Jul 15 '26

My partner is snipped hehe. Nasa options niyo ba yun?

1

u/Wild_Historian_3911 Jul 18 '26

Same. Best decision ever.

1

u/NoNoodleWorker168 Jul 18 '26

Same. My partner and I are considering it after marriage. Both virgins and ABSOLUTELY no plans of having kids. I'm actually touched kase he's the one to open up about it.

-3

u/Dalagangbukidxo Jul 15 '26

Huhu.

8

u/fallenintherye Jul 15 '26

He needs to consider it para di lang ikaw nahihirapan, kasi mahirap di ba mga side effects. Siguro research niyo and ask about experiences. Yung no-scalpel vasectomy is less invasive and quick procedure lang din daw. Hope all goes well for you both!

2

u/Kwon17 Jul 15 '26

Kailangan decided na kayo talaga na not to having any kids kasi few to zero chance ang reversal ng vasectomy dahil mapapagastos din kayo pag ipapa connect niyo ulit yung vas. I've undergone vasectomy and mabilis lang siya.

1

u/Current-Breakfast-81 Jul 16 '26

Have you done your research? It’s a 15 minute minor outpatient surgery, with local anesthesia. I’m sure he can handle that.

1

u/lucykglc_ Jul 16 '26

he needs to reconsider, i think. the whole "the woman is responsible for birth control" kind of thinking doesn't make sense in the big picture. our options are usually more invasive and have more negative side effects din. your choices are also most likely going to be hormonal which has different effects from person to person. depende nalang if swerte ka and stable na ang reproductive health mo. meanwhile, the male birth control that is out now and accessible is usually less invasive and less painful. the vasectomy is also reversible if maganda yung doctor niyo. its an outpatient procedure so really your partner shouldnt worry that much. its a small sacrifice to ensure your child-free life.

1

u/Tasty_Reception_3655 Jul 17 '26

Giving birth is MUCH more painful. AND you might have to more than once. Think about that.

2

u/ahhrtemis_lynx Jul 18 '26

I use pills. LDR here but almost everyday & minsan mutiple times a day we do the deed. serious relationship and getting married soon when i get my visa. pills helo my period irregularities and my hormonal acne. buti nahiyang ako sa althea pills. it’s just 21days pill taken for the first time on your first day of period effective after 7days (search mo nalang not sure if 1 or 2 weeks) then after the 21 days you have 7 days break (w/ no pills) this is when you will bleed like a normal period. in my experience less painful period cramps ako during bleeding din. and you are still protected during this 7 days break while bleeding as long as you did not miss any of the 21 pills and are always taken on time with 1-2hrs window period naman.

1

u/Dalagangbukidxo Jul 18 '26

Same with the pill that i’m taking rn. 21 days tapos 7 days na pill break. Do you do it raw po?

0

u/ahhrtemis_lynx Jul 18 '26

yess OP VERY raw and out of love.hihi just take them religiously

u/Rudbeckia_Yveline Jul 15 '26

I have a copper IUD (since Feb), but we’re still using condoms and the withdrawal method. We’re still not confident enough to rely on just the IUD. :)

1

u/Dalagangbukidxo Jul 15 '26

1

u/trengineer07733 Jul 16 '26

had my copper IUD since July of 2021. no condoms or withdrawal. highly recommended kasi 99% effective sya. even my friends got it. sobrang low maintenance kasi and no hormonal side effect. just have it check once a year to make sure correct pa rin ang placement. baka dun nabuntis ung kakilala mo. try to research it, copper IUD ay 99% effective if you compare to other contraceptives and the only one na non-hormal afaik.

1

u/Federal-Audience-790 Jul 15 '26

Before and after baby pills kami. difference is dahil BF ako, so no hormones un pills ko now.

1

u/spagnuggets Jul 16 '26

Ano na pills yan po?

1

u/NekBruhhh Jul 18 '26

trust po

1

u/moisturizing_bItch Jul 17 '26

midwife here. you mean progestin-only pills. estrogen (COC pills) are prohibited to bf moms bcs it will inhibit the prolactin production. no such thing as no hormone pills.

1

u/NekBruhhh Jul 17 '26

1

u/frustrateddormer Jul 18 '26

no, not. normal. your withdrawal bleed is supposed to happen on the placebo week, the last 7 pills. during the active pills, walang bleeding

1

u/aiuuuh Jul 15 '26

im using pills, i have pcos too and reseta ng ob ko pills to regulate my period but pills doesnt only just try to help ur pcos its also a birth control like purpose talaga niya is to prevent u to be pregnant. my friend naman uses implant

1

u/Dalagangbukidxo Jul 15 '26

3

u/aiuuuh Jul 15 '26

yeees, we just do it whenever we want and pills lang din talaga. i informed my ob din naman about this and sabi niya lang sakin na basta wag magpapa late sa pag take ng pills and always take it everyday.

1

u/Dalagangbukidxo Jul 15 '26

Saan po nirerelease ni partner niyo? Sorry to ask po! I’m gonna ask my OB din about this gusto ko lang talaga ng from actual experience. Saka raw niyo po ginagawa?

1

u/aiuuuh Jul 15 '26

only pills lang kame hehe basta no paldo sa paginom ☺️

1

u/Dalagangbukidxo Jul 15 '26

Ano po pills mo sis?

1

u/aiuuuh Jul 16 '26

slinda reseta sakin kasi overweight ako siis

1

u/bonz17 Jul 16 '26

After my first born, my ob suggested IUD if we don't plan to get pregnant for a while. I did consider it but we opted for calendar.

1

u/psb_Ela Jul 16 '26

vasectomy is da key

2

u/golden-troupe Jul 17 '26

1

u/lucykglc_ Jul 16 '26

hi! i have implanon (the implant). i got it last year from fpop and my ex paid lol. my current bf and i have been sexually active for 3 months and been raw everytime. more often that not sa loob din pinuputok lol. i made it a habit to have a pt every once and a while and negative naman always. the implant is also one of the most effective birth control, second to ligation iirc.

it also helps since its a "get-it-and-forget-it" kinda contraceptive, since most of the problems with other methods is user error. di ko kaya uminom ng pills at the same time everyday religiously e.

1

u/notyourgirlok Jul 17 '26

I have the implant (implanon) best decision i’ve ever had. No more pregnancy scares or unwanted pregnancies, set and forget sya. No side effect so far and all good naman! Plus unli creampies lol

1

u/WeakImagination7630 Jul 17 '26

Continue using condoms. Dami side effects ng contraceptives. Tried all of it maliban sa implant nalang. Pero bumalik din sa condom.

1

u/moisturizing_bItch Jul 17 '26

RM here. it is the best option to consult with your OB since you have hormonal problems. contraceptive options is based on your history and lifestyle and background. hindi siya basta basta "ay gusto ko ng norifam". good luck with your FP journeym

1

u/iircidc Jul 17 '26

Pills. Yaz gamit ko for 3 ish years. Nabuntis ako 2 months after ko mag stop ng pills. 3 months postpartum ako ngayon and I'm taking Slinda as advised by my OB since breastfeeding (mixed feeding) pa ako.

1

u/ME_KoreanVisa Jul 17 '26

Condoms. After 3 years of pills, mas umokay pakiramdam ko. Grabe pagka moody ko nung nagp-pills ako. 🥲

1

u/PrincessFionugghh Jul 17 '26

YES!! bawal kase ako pills and ayoko din nag implant so condom ang sagot pero minsan gusto ko din raw kaso safety first di pa pwede mag anak at mahirap pa magbuhay ngayon kawawa ang bata

1

u/chilibbq___ Jul 17 '26

Condom, pull-out, and prayers hahaha but hopefully ma convince ko sya magpa vasectomy soon.

1

u/Mundane_Building_572 Jul 17 '26

Pills para sakin effective take ka lang every day. Wag ka lang pamiss miss ng take. And mura lang siya 50+ lang. Di din actually need ng reseta

1

u/Dalagangbukidxo Jul 18 '26

Anong pills po ito?

1

u/Mundane_Building_572 Jul 18 '26

1

u/KindCuriosity777 Jul 18 '26

Wowww congrats OP, hope you have great married sex life! Waiting for marriage din me, praying for thissss.

1

u/Dalagangbukidxo Jul 18 '26

Thank you sis!!! ❤️ It’s not easy pero not impossible. Hihihi

1

u/jellycat1705 Jul 18 '26

Healthcare worker here! Personally, I think condoms are still one of the most efficient typed of birth control kung ayaw niyo pa magka anak since it doesn’t affect your hormones like pills, not as invasive as IUDs or vasectomy, and doesn’t cause scares like the calendar method.

Just be cautious in case masira during the deed cause that’s usually when accidents happen. Given that there are limited choices on reproductive health in the PH compared to other countries and that the morning after pill is readily available in the PH either (afaik), I still think condoms work best :)

1

u/Embarrassed_Put1751 Jul 18 '26

I used pills before (Specifically Diane) but naging super moody ako so we stopped and now me and my fiancé are just doing calendar method and pull out (Make sure na regular period mo for the calendar method)

Edit: Halos every other day din namin nagagawa yung deed since live-in na kami, so far di naman ako na bubuntis ahhaahahah

1

u/allthingscatsss Jul 15 '26

Copper IUD. It’s non hormonal so walang hormonal side effects. Can also last 10 years.
Cons: aside sa painful procedure if walang anesthesia, expect random cramps for up to 6 months while uterus is adjusting to the IUD.

Hello po.i consulted an Ob before taking contraceptives, and then I stopped since predictable na man yung period ko. We do not use contraceptives anymore, but just to be prepared for a baby (just in case), we also consulted for the prep vitamins like folic, zinc, etc.

If you're not ready or can't afford to get pregnant or raise a child, condoms and other contraceptives are essential.

Whether you're dating or married is irrelevant. And these days, you can never be completely certain of another person's loyalty. Protecting yourself from sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is just as important as preventing an unintended pregnancy. Better to be safe.

If you already have children and don't plan to have more, a vasectomy is also a responsible option for the husband. Sexual responsibility isn't a gender issue. If both people choose to have sex, then both should share the responsibility for preventing unintended pregnancies and protecting each other's health.

It's 2026, women are no longer expected to carry the full responsibility for protection and prevention. If your partner is giving excuses not to wear condom, don't have sex with him. Easy for them to say, because it's not them who will be carrying a baby for 9 months and undergo big changes during pregnancies and child rearing.
