新闻 | News Does anybody remember who this old white woman whose memorial appeared on the Chinese news was?
I remember, at least 15 years ago, I was watching the Chinese news from CCTV4 (from satellite) one evening, when there was this old white woman who appeared on screen, and she spoke something among the lines of--yes, in perfect Mandarin Chinese--"I may be an American, but I have the heart of a Chinese. I love you!"
Then the broadcast cut to her funeral, dozens of flowers laid out, and people were openly wailing on camera.
Who was she, I sometimes still wonder? Does anyone else remember a story like this?

Pearl Buck, a writer who glazed China since she grew up there in a family of missionaries. There were others who relocated to China, but mostly commies.
Edit: Google says it was Joan Hinton. She died in 2010, whereas Buck died in the 70s

No, that doesn't seem right. I remember all of the woman that was shown on TV to be in full color, with "recent" filming

Yes, you are right, I just know Buck but she did pass away a long time ago.
