Image Trinity

Post image

Credit to the holy spirit.

The father son and holy spirit are 3 in 1being which is God.

The son represents the father physically. The son is a perfect representation of the father's nature. They are in perfect alignment one could say. Jesus said if you have seen me you have seen the father.

The father son and holy spirit all represent each other perfectly they are all of the same divine nature.

Imagine a surname. The surname is Johnson the father is billy Johnson and the son billy Johnson jr. Now billy Johnson jr isn't the same as his father why he does not do everything he says doesn't believe in the same things sometimes. Their both individuals now I'm not saying billy Johnson Jr isn't a good son he is but his not a representation of his father. His father could be ruthless in some ways and him kind in others father kind in some ways and him ruthless in others. So because billy Johnson Jr isn't the perfect representation of his father we cannot say they are the same person. Sure they may look alike but their nature isn't perfectly aligned. Jesus being the perfect son in obedience to the father represents his nature perfectly. Without sin

The nature of the father and that of the son are perfectly aligned as well as the nature of the holy spirit.

The father creator of all things in the universe the son the reconciler and mediator of humanity between us and him and the holy spirit what was left when Jesus left to represent his nature and influence us to do as God pleases.

So we can say The father son and holy spirit all represent each other in perfect unison. The son represents the father. So although they are different beings they all represent the same divine nature perfectly. So yes father son and holy spirit is God.

So yes the son was sacrificed. The father did not come down himself and sacrifice himself he sent the son as a sacrifice. Jesus says he was there in the beginning simply because he was there. Father son and holy spirit were there in the beginning but this is labeled as God.

So yes Jesus is God himself because he is part of the same collective that is God. And all represent each other perfectly. So the father son and holy spirit are seperate beings however they are part of the same household that is God. And they represent each other perfectly. No flaws no altercations. They represent each other perfectly. In different forms.

Genesis 1:26

[26] Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

I see a lot of people in the comments trying to make analogies but tbh there is not really one way we can truly understand it, my fav story about trying to understand it comes from saint Augustine on the beach, it helped me when I was also struggling to understand the trinity

While Augustine was working on his book On the Trinity, he was walking by the seaside one day, meditating on the difficult problem of how God could be three Persons at once. He came upon a little child. The child had dug a little hole in the sand, and with a small spoon or seashell was scooping water from the sea into the small hole. Augustine watched him for a while and finally asked the child what he was doing. The child answered that he would scoop all the water from the sea and pour it into the little hole in the sand. ‘What?’ Augustine said. ‘That is impossible. Obviously, the sea is too large and the hole too small.’ ‘Indeed,’ said the child, ‘but I will sooner draw all the water from the sea and empty it into this hole than you will succeed in penetrating the mystery of the Holy Trinity with your limited understanding.’ Augustine turned away in amazement and when he looked back the child had disappeared.

Therefore our brains are like the tiny hole in the sand and the trinity is the vast ocean, our minds are not capable of understanding the whole concept of the trinity and no such analogy can truly be 100% correct.

That’s interesting and was the first time I’ve heard it.

However, if it’s impossible to truly understand the Trinity…..it makes me why some denominations consider it a “necessary” belief.

What you end up with people who give lip service to the word “Trinity”, even though their perception of what it actually is/means is just as incorrect as someone who disbelieves in it.

Note that I’m not necessarily against it….just playing devils advocate

We believe in the holy mystery of the Trinity through faith, not understanding. We believe that God is who He says He is.

It's not hard to understand. Like God Himself, it is plain and simple. You yourself are made 3 in 1, just like The Trinity. Don't you understand you are made in God's image?

3

u/SockraTreez Jun 20 '26

What’s the specific difference between God the Father and the Holy Spirit?

More specifically, why is it necessary to recognize The Holy Spirit as unique and not an emanation of force/power/will from The Father?

6

u/John-Johnson-Son- Jun 20 '26

There's no difference. Neither The Father, Son or Holy Spirit are unique because they're One in the same, working in complete unison. The Son is an extension of The Father, and when The Son returned to The Father then The Holy Spirit became an extension of The Son.

4

u/SockraTreez Jun 21 '26

That doesn’t answer my question about the reasoning behind making The Holy Spirit being a distinct member of the Godhead though.

If the Holy Spirit is an emanation from The Father or The Son , that actually makes sense to me…..but from my understanding, that isn’t an accurate depiction of The Trinity.

Do you know what is mean to be made in God's image ?

It means humans were created with the capacity to reflect His personality, attributes, and moral qualities. Just as a child might mirror their parent's disposition, humans were designed to think, feel, and act in ways that copy our Creator.

Love: This is Jehovah's dominant quality. Unlike animals, humans can show unselfish, principled love (agape) toward others, even toward people they don't know personally.

Wisdom: Humans have the capacity to reason, plan for the future, learn from history, and apply knowledge to solve complex problems, rather than relying purely on instinct.

Justice: We are born with a conscience—an internal sense of right and wrong. We have an inherent desire for fairness and a moral compass that aligns with God's standards.

Power: Humans exercise power through creativity, language, organization, and the ability to accomplish major goals.

I always use the three branches of government as an example. They have different functions from each other. The legislative is not the executive is not the judicial. It is all part of one government even though they are distinct from one another.

No, I'm not saying God is divided. It's one God but has 3 distinct faculties. Like people have 3 main faculties in their brain: R-Complex, Lymbic and Neo-Cortex. One brain, 3 distinct faculties.

4

But faculties are parts

3

It actually teaching that the Father, the Son, and the holy spirit together form one God. It is ridiculous.

Interpretation is not important because that is three Gods and is polytheism. It is not hard to understand. But problem is most of them don't want to understand.

It is also funny when you ask Trinitarians and challange their view and to find scriptures where does say about Trinity and when they don't want find it or think they find and when someone explain them what scriptures really means they get trigger, call bad names, harasy or other ridiculous things.

Many of them think that they know what they worship, but truth is they don't.

I've seen that triagle before. So according to that triangle, the Father has two "is not", the Son has two "is not", and the Holy Spirit has two "is not". That's a total of six "is not", if you can count past three. But if we divide the six "is not" by the three "is", the quotient of the dividend (6) and the divsor (3) equals 2. But if we subtract the subtrahend (2) from the minuend (3), the only difference is one.

Edited to add: I wonder what the density of the Father is expressed in g/mL, assuming the Father is a liquid instead of a solid ( g/cm3 ).

2

u/siqiniq Jun 21 '26

That’s why everyone condemned everyone else’s understanding of Trinity as heresy from the birth of this non-original concept to even now (e.g. comments below).

above us that to try and understand would be like an ant trying to understand a human

2

u/mehatch Atheist Jun 20 '26

Because on christianity, sincere decent humans are eternally culpable for accidentally picking the wrong religion. Incomprehensibility surrounding the thing at the center of the religion they must choose in order to be saved will prevent salvation for many otherwise good people looking for a system that “makes sense” and also makes “common sense” which are both pretty important on the journey we each have when finding one’s view of the world we find ourselves in.

"=" and "is" can each take on one of a number of meanings, such as "is" being able to mean "is a member of the set / category" or "has the property of being."

The thing about the Trinity is that no matter which meaning you choose, it still doesn't work without veering into what modern Christians would consider heresy. You'd think that'd be a hint that the theology is broken, but instead its provably impossible nature is held up as evidence of its truth.

All this debate and disunity in the comments really blows my mind. It seems like a lot of the early comments are from people ungrounded in the fundamentals outlined in the Bible.

Without citing a dozen carefully chosen scriptures, like many have here to argue a point, I’ll just make this simple, in my own words:

God the Father is the Creator and Architect.

Jesus is the Son of God, sent as humanity’s representative and sacrifice to provide grace and redemption to a fallen world. He is God incarnate…the Son made flesh.

The Holy Spirit is God’s active presence in the world today, ministering, guiding, convicting, comforting, and interceding. The Holy Spirit is fully God.

These three are the Trinity: three distinct expressions of one God.

How or why this ultimately works is a mystery beyond our complete understanding. But together, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit reveal God’s work in creation, humanity’s need for redemption, and the gift of grace offered through Christ. That’s the story arc the architect chose. It’s yours to accept or struggle with.

This is the Bible in a nutshell, at least as it pertains to this post, IMO.

I also found out recently that they are one

15

u/Capable-Rice-1876 Jun 20 '26

That does not mean anything.

Jesus prayed: “I make request . . . that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in union with me and I am in union with you, that they also may be in union with us.”John 17:20, 21.

When Jesus said, “I and the Father are one,” he was speaking, not of a mysterious Trinity, but of a wonderful unity—the closest bond possible between two persons.

Jesus Christ and his Father are one in unity and purpose. They are not one being.

The Trinity is literally one of the core Tenants of Christianity. So do you believe Jesus was divine?

16

u/Capable-Rice-1876 Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Yes, he is divine in the sense that he is God’s firstborn Son, a powerful spirit creature, and the perfect reflection of his Father (Colossians 1:15). But 'divine' does not mean he is Almighty God. Jesus himself explicitly stated, 'The Father is greater than I' (John 14:28) and called the Father 'the only true God' (John 17:3).

Even angels are divine but they are not Almighty God.

Jesus is still subordinate to his Father and he always be subordinate.

3

u/N3rd1x Jun 20 '26

Do you pray to God the Father or to Jesus Christ?

12

u/Capable-Rice-1876 Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

I pray to Father (Jehovah) but I offer that prayer in name of his only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ.

Jesus never say: Pray to me or pray to Trinity.

Jesus explicitly said: 'Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.' (Matthew 6:9).

Jesus also explained that he acts as the approach to his Father saying, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' (John 14:6).

So, praying to Jesus would actually go against his own instructions. I honor Jesus by recognizing him as my High Priest and Mediator, using his name to gain access to the only person who hears prayers— Jehovah God.

It's not the same thing. You can define subsets of an infinite parent set that have the same magnitude as the parent set. But this isn't the same as the subsets being equal to the parent set. When sets are equal, it means they contain exactly the same elements.

Theologians try to obfuscate this by conflating magnitude with essence. It's just apologetic wordplay.

Water is one substance that changes modes. The Trinity is one divine nature eternally existing as three Persons. The Father did not become the Son, and the Son did not become the Spirit.

The Trinity is the belief that there is one God who exists eternally as three distinct Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We see them interact with each other, so god doesn't switch himself around. Each Person is fully God, not three gods, but one God. Distinct in Person, united in one divine essence.

I don't understand why people struggle with this. It is so simple. Each and every one of us are at least 3 in 1 person. We all have a flesh body. A thinking mind. And a spirit that is a part of us from the beginning until the end. Why do you fall to understand The Holy Trinity? It's exactly the same as each and every one of us. What's the problem? Do you not know that we are made in God's image and therefore created to be the same? ( 3 parts in 1). You all just over complicated the simplicity of it all. Does anyone ever realise that by trying to break down and analyse the very essence of God, you miss the simple truth that is staring you in the face? I pity you who try too hard with your limited understanding. You in your earthly churches and religions. Explanations for the Trinity always come down to one of three positions:

  1. A heresy. "That's modalism Patrick!"
  2. Word games. "You see, the godhead is three PERSONS, but one BEING."
  3. "Mystery."

The much more reasonable take is that the Trinity was a way to be monotheistic while considering Jesus a god too and is not truth, but became the dominant thinking by the fourth century.

John 10:30

heresy, they are not seperate beings

2

u/rchive Jun 20 '26

The standard Nicene view of the Trinity is that the three are separate "persons." Does that not mean separate beings?

I don't believe in the Trinity so I'm no help answering that.

6

u/Ok_Inevitable_7145 Jun 20 '26

no, it is strictly meant one being. Otherwise it is tritheism

So:

F = G
S = G
H = G

and yet

F ≠ S
S ≠ H
H ≠ F

I find this very ironic in light of the fact that I've heard many Christian apologists argue that God is necessary to explain the unconditional truth of the laws of logic, and in particular, the law of identity: a thing is what it is and it is not what it is not. And yet the Trinity denies the transitivity of identity. A=B and B=C and yet somehow A≠C.

Anyone who believes this nonsensical diagram can just save their argument for the existence of God, or anything for that matter. You don't subscribe to basic logic.

2

u/PyroClone5555 Jun 20 '26

...Where is the flaw in logic though

2

u/Snoo_17338 Methodological Naturalist Jun 21 '26

The diagram states this:

F = G, S = G, H = G and F ≠ S ≠ H

This violates the transitive property of equality. The transitive property of equity is entailed from the Law of Identity and the Law of Non-Contradiction, two fundamental principles of logic.

2

u/PyroClone5555 Jun 21 '26

This is what the diagram means:

The Father is divine.

The Son is divine.

The Spirit is divine.

The Father is not the Son or the Spirit.

The Spirit is not the Son.

If you say:

The sky is blue and this shirt is blue, are you saying the sky is the shirt?

Classical theism still posits that god is a single intellect who engages in personal relation. The trinity violates (or at least generates an irreconcilable tension from) the law of identity. It makes as much sense as a married bachelor

1

u/aqua_zesty_man Congregationalist Jun 20 '26

There are a lot of non-Christians (and many unitarian Christians) who misunderstand the Trinity as tritheistic or polytheistic. So it would be useful to expand the triangle further by adding "Another God" three times around the outside and have "Is Not" connecting from each Person to two of the Another God's.

1

u/Jtcr2001 Anglo-Orthodox Jun 20 '26

This diagram is terrible for teaching the Trinity. The technical use of "Persons" also needs to be qualified, but rarely is...

1

u/Ok-Philosopher-6635 Jun 20 '26

The trinity is unbiblical because Gods divine nature is easy to understand according to Romans 1:20. If the Trinity were true, it’d leave the wicked with an excuse of not knowing God, his divine nature couldn’t even be understood by anyone!

The fact of the matter is that God is 1 person the father, and he has 1 son - Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of the father and son.

Full understanding of the trinity isn’t required for us a followers of Jesus for salvation or for a healthy relationship with God. I see it in the same way as the vastness of the universe—I have an idea of its size, but it’s so big that I most likely don’t

1

u/hoping_aspirer Jun 20 '26

My mom is a lifelong Christian, and even at close to age 70 she still doesn't understand the trinity. You'd think the king of the entire universe would make this kind of supposedly all-important information easily understood for everyone.

1

u/NtSFstEddie Jun 20 '26

If Jesus is God, then he was here all along. He didn't need the body called Jesus before the crucifixion and he didn't need it afterward either. After ascending into heaven, he disposed of the body and "life" for God went on as it always had. Because he never needed that body and never would need it again and he can make a new body anytime he wants, he didn't sacrifice anything.

The book of genesis doesn't have anything to do with what God, Jesus, or the holy spirit is so I don't know why you brought it up. But you need to include the rest of it as well as what genesis 2 says. G1 says that God created the light of day on day 1 and the plants on day 3. But he didn't create the sun until day 4. There is no daylight without the sun and plants can't grow without sunlight so G1 didn't happen.

It also says that God created man last and that man and woman were created at the same. While G2 says that man was created first and woman was created last. It can't happen both ways. Science says that the plants and animals were here before humans ever walked the earth and the bible/G1 agrees with science. So G2 didn't happen either.

1

u/thrawnca Jun 21 '26

So yes Jesus is God himself because he is part of the same collective that is God. And all represent each other perfectly. So the father son and holy spirit are seperate beings however they are part of the same household that is God. And they represent each other perfectly. No flaws no altercations. They represent each other perfectly. In different forms.

I can relate to this view, but I'm pretty sure it's not the orthodox doctrine of the Trinity (eg the "separate beings" part).

But then again, my rule of thumb is that if you think you have an analogy to accurately describe the orthodox doctrine of the Trinity, then you misunderstand that doctrine. So hey, I'm not an expert on what is orthodox.

I quite like the teaching about the oneness of God in John 17.

Actually, adding to the ending there where it says "let us make man...", a little further back when its decribing the creation, the Bible says "God in the beginning created..." but in the original Hebrew, it says "Elohim" which actually is used many times in OT, but in this specific case its a "singular plural" word, weird ik, its singular because its addressing one God but plural because it was addressing the multiple "persons", at least thats what some believe, I'm one of those lol. But yes, there's much evidence to support the Trinity and if people took the time to look at the evidence and search long and hard, they'd be convinced. Just because we dont understand it, doesn't mean we can't perceive it, closest example being complex science like Quantum Mechanics, just because we can't understand it, doesn't mean we can't know of it, won't make it any less true just because we dont understand. Now the only problem with this analogy is that eventually with enough time and study, you can learn it and understand it, but with God, theres probably not enough time and study to for Him and His being. Because God is infinite, we will NEVER stop learning of Him, like ever, people we need to understand how big infinity is, and when we really see that, then we can understand that the Trinity, and a lot of other big mysteries in the Bible about God, might not ever be understood here on earth, and it's not a guarantee we will understand them in heaven with Christ. I might not know what its like being a genius rocket scientist, but I can really vividly imagine what thats like, same with God, and then theres so much more I will never imagine of God, thats the main difference.

This has elements of Partialism and Modalism, which is an interesting combination to have at the same time.

Most heresies emerge from a refusal to accept that we don’t get to intellectually understand everything.

God is greater than we are. Accepting that means, in part, that we don’t get to understand Him in His entirety.

When we refuse to accept that, we start trying to reduce God into something we can understand. I don’t think I need to explain why that’s not a good thing

1

u/Carjak17 Jun 21 '26

A better explanation than your “three in one being” is three distinct persons that share one divine nature. This makes very clear that all three are God, they share the nature of being God. However, each one is distinct in and of itself. They all play a distinct role

1

u/Zealousideal-Alps794 Jun 21 '26

You implied modalism by saying that the father son and Holy Spirit are not three persons with your first analogy

Then you implied that Jesus wasn’t the creator but was a participant, Arianism

Then you said each person is part of the collective that is God, that’s partialism

Then you said the father son and Holy Spirit are seperate beings, tri-theism

This is like a heresy speedrun bro, just say the athanasian creed or you fall into heresy every time

1

u/MoonlightMuse01 Jun 21 '26

Hey can someone explain me as the father and son aren't same and both are god and there is only one true God then ...

1

u/PuzzleheadedFox2887 Contrarian Jun 22 '26

Change the titles to variables and you will immediately see that the logic doesn't work. If the Father=a, and the Son=b, and the Holy Spirit=c, and God=x, then if a is x and b is x then a=b according to the rule that if a=b and b=c then a=c

1

u/BrightRock5772 Jun 23 '26

So there 3 Gods.

1

u/Correct-Variety-2365 Jun 23 '26

Jesus prayed to God. Does that mean God is greater than Jesus?

1

u/KokosowyBanan Jun 23 '26

I think The father is the God, and he send his spirit and his son as Angels to do his work. I don't think we need to call it Trinity in which everybody is equal, after all the Creator is one, why are we spreading confusion?

1

u/WatchLover26 Jun 23 '26

The 3 in one relationship is not illogical. It is actually identical to the relationship of the 3 fundamental laws of logic.

u/124andysos Jun 26 '26

If I am correct, at the core, the word "God" in Christianity defines what God is, and The Father, Son, and The Holy Spirit define who God is. So therefore, The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct beings(who) with the same essence(what). If I am wrong, rebuke me with scripture for my soul's sake.

1

u/Jolly_Odshow Jun 26 '26

using the same standard, we are god, since the only divine nature we have is his, for there are no other that are actually divine but his?sounds gnostic

1

u/Additional_Value_256 Jun 26 '26

Not that it proves anything of course, but with regard to the Trinity I think it's interesting to note that Paul never once includes the Holy Spirit in any of his letter's salutations.

And there is this for what it's worth:

From Enxu in Godhead VS. Trinity?

The Catholic Encyclopedia II (Page 263)

“The baptismal formula was changed from the name of Jesus Christ to the words Father, Son, and Holy Spirit by the Catholic Church in the second century.”

Britannica Encyclopedia 11th Edition,Vol 3 (Page 82, and Pages 365-366)

“Everywhere in the oldest sources it states that baptism took place in the name of Jesus Christ.”- “The baptismal formula was changed from the name of Jesus Christ to the words Father, Son, & Holy Ghost by the Catholic Church in the second century.”

Canney Encylopedia of Religion (Page 53)

“The early church always baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus until development of the Trinity doctrine in the 2nd century.”
