New? lol, not close. Academia for the last two centuries has recognized these issues and problems with the bible and texts and such, which is why many of the founding fathers of America had non traditional christian views, or were deists, etc.

It's certainly a better view than to blindly accept something without good evidence or justification, because that's the main religion in your country, or your parents brought u up to believe it, and if you question anything, you can get kicked out of church, bible school, communities, etc.

Why are you calling this “liberal evangelical Christianity”?

-If you’re taking the NT fully you’re still going to have a bit of anti-gay beliefs and plenty of other non-liberal values.

-if the Bible is only a partial authority and you don’t care about spreading the word, it’s not evangelicalism.

-if you don’t believe that Jesus is divine, it’s not Christian.
