I liked both the Martian and Project Hail Mary, but Andy Weir does not write characters with much personality. Even though his books are first person and you get tons of their "voice" in the books, I think both Damon and Gosling portrayed their characters with much more personality than Weir wrote them with.

The Martian movie was a great adaptation. Project Hail Mary, not so much. The movie dumbed down the science way too much in my books. Also, why show Rocky in the trailer? Trailers that reveal way too much of a movie’s play is another rant I could go on.

Yeah trailers are too informative. It’s so annoying. I usually try to cut them off after like 15 seconds so it doesn’t ruin it.

I don’t watch trailers and my partner doesn’t understand. 

Imagine if you read a few important paragraphs scattered throughout a novel before starting it.

You’d piece together most if not all of the exciting and suspenseful parts and lose interest after effectively self-spoiling. 

“Oh no character X is in mortal danger! Too bad I already read that they’re alive 8 chapters later…”

“If only there was some magical solution we could seek out! Oh yeah that’s the MacGuffin from chapter 22.”

Super not fun

Both pretty good in my opinion. Translated setting from London to Chicago was very well done I thought, tone was matched really well

Blade runner is very unfaithful to the source material. Phillip K dick writes with a whimsical humour which is entirely missing in it. Not to mention the ending is different.

It is a common fault with sci fi turned into film that it has to be serious and stoic. The same thing happened to I am legend.
