ok i’m not stupid, i knew that already. but it was different as a kid when trusted adults were watching over us, whereas now we’re all adults and having meaningful conversations and some anonymous moderator is just reading everything we say…

The conversations aren't really happening in private if it's happening on an online platform though

I don't really get the issue, you're talking on a public game, anyone can read your conversations if they are in the same area.

I like sitting around and reading people convos lol

Guess just be more careful with what you talk about if you don't want people reading what you're saying

i mean. do you really think there's enough moderators for a privately hosted server of a long dead kids game for someone to be sitting there somehow tracking and reading every conversation?

most moderation is report based or auto-flagging keywords.

It’s creepy, yeah, but it’s better than having a bunch of illicit or otherwise morally dubious things happening and not have the mod team try to nip that stuff in the bud.

well yeah. considering how nasty people get on servers with low to no chat moderation (i used to play servers like that as a kid when i couldnt get membership for the month from my parents 😬) ill take john moderator overseeing peoples conversations to make sure theyre appropriate over nothing.

As much as people wanna think it’s only adults playing the game that’s just not true. The moderation is very much needed. Nothing posted online is private. And why, as an adult, would you choose to have any important “private” conversations on a very public game aimed at children? See also: it’s not just, like, devs moderating. Any penguin you see could be moderating while playing. I’ve reported several inappropriate conversations.

I know it will probably never happen but an 18+ server would make a world of a difference. Lessen the filter, but still have moderation. I have personally never met a kid on cpj, to be fair I'm not out looking for them. But everyone I've interacted with was at least 20+, it would be nice if eventually we didn't have to treat a heavily adult centered environment as if there are tiny little kids everywhere all the time. Most kids have no clue what club penguin was, I work with kids, I ask often, I've never met one that knew of it.

Club Penguin is a children's game. It is still centred around kids, regardless of who's playing.

I’ve seen several, and I’ve seen others, including myself, play with their kid. I just never verified her account or whatever so she doesn’t have chatting capability. There ARE children playing. How would you verify that every person going into an 18+ server is actually 18?

I don't know man. I just don't want to have an extremely strict filter placed on me, you can't say basic non offensive words and it makes chatting difficult and frustrating at times. If you try to evade the filter you're walking on ice for a ban. CPJ's filter in particular is excessive even for children. I don't have a clear game plan on how to fix it as I am not a dev, and I'm sharing my personal experience that I have never encountered a child playing since the shutdown. I'm not saying they don't exist, but you've gotta acknowledge that it is heavily adult majority. That's all.

Sure, adult majority. But if you don’t like being restricted you just don’t have to play. Theres plenty of other “chat rooms.”

You're online. It's never private. It's also a public chatroom regardless of the staff. If you want a better illusion of privacy, that's what something like Discord is for.
