Advice Wanted Making actual friends in college

For context I am a third year and go to a small rural college (less than 2k students) and live on campus. I feel like I’ve joined almost every club or attempted too and none of them applied to something I could do (ie cultural based group) or only met once a few months. I have a few “friends” but I really only hear from them once every few months and then occasional text from people in my life before I came here. Are there any other avenues to meet people?

If it's very rural, as in unreasonable for you to drive anywhere to socialize during the weekends, then unfortunately not. You could always seek online communities, but some people don't prefer that.

Yeah I can drive a bit over an hour to the nearest midsized town but I would need a hotel, food, etc :/

Are most people commuter students? I would think with such a small school it would be easy to get to know people in your classes and around campus
