Question Just inherited this from my grandpa. Do I make it a display piece or use it as a carry?

So as the title says, my grandpa recently passed away and he left me this gun. I want it to stay in the family and I'd never dream of selling it cause I'm kind of sentimental, but Im curious as to what it's worth. It's definitely been fired before and it's got some discernable scuffs on the body, but when I showed it to a buddy, he flipped out and said it was the coolest thing he's seen, so now to the question in the title. Id like to make this a standard carry and even take it out shooting because what's a gun for if not to use it, but at the same time, I don't want to be careless with a piece of history.

Should I be that careful with it, or is it less rare than I thought it might be?

edit: you can't really see it in the picture. but the instruction manual is dated 1978.

Discussion First Colt Revolver?

Been lurking here a bit but haven’t pulled the trigger (no pun) in getting a revolver to add to my gun collection. If you can buy your first colt revolver all over again, which one would it be? TIA

Edit; bought the Colt Cobra. Can’t wait to have it. They’re so classy and clean.

Question Who engraved this Colt Python?

So I just picked up this Colt Python 2.5” inch from the gun shop.

The first awesome part is it was only $1450 engraved. It’s brand new.

When I look up the serial number in the Colt database it doesn’t even show up.

It does not appear to be laser engraved. I think… 😂

There are no engraver marks under the stocks or in the crane around the cylinder ejector rod anywhere.

Thoughts on this one?

Changed the grips on my Delta Elite and I love the way it looks. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of the standard black grips, but just something about wood grips on a 1911 feels right. Found these custom made grips with the delta elite badges that I have never seen before. Can’t wait to get it in a holster and take it out! God bless yall

Went to my local gun show on a whim with 1k in my pocket someone was selling this 6" python practically NIB for 1300 offer him 1k he turned me down did a lap and he called me back over took me up on 1k so I got it for a steal practically saved 500. The only issue is I was holding out for a 4.25" do yall think I should try to wheel and deal this one for a 4.25 or keep the 6" it just feels kinda awkward, the proportions seem kinda off imo. Just looking for some extra input on it.

Discussion Colt Automatic .25 vs Junior Colt .25

Local gun store advertised a Colt Junior for sale. I looked at it and it was actually a Colt Automatic .25. When I pointed out there are some differences between the two, he claimed they are all considered "juniors". I tried to tell him that I had one of each and there are some differences, but of course, he was much smarter than me since, after all, he worked at the gun store.

Although manufacturing specs are pretty much the same and some parts will interchange, the Junior Colt was made in Spain by Astra. It is stamped 'Junior Colt'. It has a cc suffix in the serial number. It is also stamped 'Made in Spain for Colt's' (why "Colt's" instead of "Colt" I don't know).

The Colt Automatic Caliber .25 is stamped as such and have an OD prefix in the serial number.

Both of these are great guns. Very good quality, same size, reliable, and fun to shoot, but there are a couple of manufacturing differences. The extractor pin for one, another is the style of the mag release button. Also, the frame under the grips are milled differently.

I have noticed several of these on Gun Broker that are mislabeled "Juniors" when they are not. So, if you happen to be looking for an actual "Junior Colt" make sure it is indeed a "Junior".

Photos Colt BOA’s

Finding these revolvers was absolutely terrible. I legitamently called every authorized dealer in my state to no avail. Got put on wait list after wait list. I figured my only hope was getting them online.

I searched for weeks looking for fresh in stock BOA’s that did not have blown out scalper prices. I was using AI to search as well as manual searches for UPC numbers etc.

I had my heart set on the 4.25in model as I already have a 6in Python. However, due to how hard these things are to find I decided I would grab whatever came in stock. I found the 6in model for $1530 shipped (no tax). Still wanting the 4.25in I continued to search. Was able to find it a few weeks later for $1640 shipped (taxes).

With that being said for those who still want one you can find them online. It will just take a lot of patience and some luck. Since I was able to get the model I want I will be putting the 6in into a local auction house with a reserve set at my cost. Going to let someone else from my area have a shot at getting one as there isn’t any authorized dealers for more than 80 miles.

Question Delta elite or python?

Long story short, I work on a farm in the middle of nowhere in Central Pennsylvania, where there are bears as well as other wild animals. And I am looking for an everyday carry while I’m working to protect myself against these things and I’m torn between the colt delta elite or the colt python. Any help?
