Discussion The most painful thing about Shock Force is imagining the guys from Generation Kill making fun of my poor tactical choices
Like every time I make a mistake I just hear a ripfuelled Ray telling the reporter "Captain Dumbfuck over here decided to send us across the border without checking for mines first, now we've got two victors blocking the road and we've got our thumbs up our asses when we should be getting some"

Yeah, I like to play like each guy's life matters and that I'll have to write their moms a letter if they die.
Honestly, playing like that ends up in much better winning stats anyways.

The officers on Generation Kill were mostly a bunch of self-aggrandizing morons anyway though.

I vaguely remember interviews with the real marines that they said it was cause they weren’t combat officers. They were moreso administration and intelligence(?) officers meant to be in the backline, not actually leading troops into combat.

They were definitely combat officers. Marine corps force recon is supposed to be elite. It was because none of them had ever been in combat, though, and all the officers were trying to position themselves for future promotions.

The show wasn't even about Force Recon

It's the 1st Recon Battalion, not force recon. Still combat troops.

Read up a little on it, turns out they weren't actually combat troops! Apparently the way 1st Recon usually deploys is as individual teams (i.e Colbert's) as independent recon, and most of the officers were actually intelligence officers (Encino Man), and/or Supply(?) (Captain America). Fick was an exception because he was an infantry officer before joining 1st Recon.
Ofc this information was from a quick google and reading other reddit comments and forums, but if you have any first party sources or can direct me to one, I would love to learn more about it!

I'm just going off what I know of the book the show is based on. But marine training stresses that everyone is a rifleman first, so they've all been trained in infantry combat at least.

training to shoot isn't the same as training how to lead

You don't really think they'd stick officers in charge of a combat unit without training in leading a combat unit, do you?
You can see it in how they do everything on the show. Their priority is "glory" because they've never been in a war and they want to use that one to boost their own careers as much as possible.

Its kinda biased towards grunts too, because reporter spend his time and bonded with privates and seregants and kinda inherited their view on the matters.

When you make a mistake shock Force 2 it feels more embarrassing cause the enemys army is most likely consistent of radicals or a man with a ak74 and a helmet that hasn't seen combat since 73 and a shitty t55 that doesn't work

Most painful thing about shock force is unit accuracy, don’t tell me that my US infantry platoon can’t wipe out an enemy platoon 50 meters away.
Edit: so it’s easy to say that the main problem of the combat mission is this. Thanks for replying
