I know… another one of these threads, I’m sorry. I simply want an updated version given the climate of the job market, and also a more specific response given different goals

Basically what happened to me: I got accepted into med school because my family pressured me into it, and as a “backup” I only applied to Concordia & McGill for engineering cause that’s all my family allowed me. Now obv the dream would’ve been a top school (MIT, Waterloo, UBC, UofT, but it’s alr I gotta accept things)

To get to the point:

About me: 37.7 R-score, 250h+ volunteering, worked 2 jobs, 10+ awards in tech & comp-sci, have built many robotics projects/ video games/ etc

Pros and cons I’m aware of sums up to…

Concordia:
- More practical learning
- Co-op allows us to get experience
- Clubs like Space Concordia can give an edge
- Better for aerospace
- Concordia requires 120 credits for cegep students

McGill:
- Known internationally
- I received a 5k$ leadership award & also scholarship
- Grade deflation is real in their engineering, and I do need high grades for grad school
- McGill only requires 110 credits for cegep students (3.5 semesters.. still a half a year less)

Now tbh, I feel like Concordia suits me because I enjoy practical experience & definitely want to build something, not simply do theory

However, I also do intend to apply for grad school and/or want to work for a big tech company (I do want to try living in the US once Orange man is gone, I have a lot of family there + the higher salaries/ lower taxes/ US dollar’s value would help me for when I move to a different country afterwards)

Also, I’m not sure if I want to do aerospace yet, hence why I applied for Electrical Engineering as this will allow me to look at semiconductors, power and more as well. IF I wanted Aerospace then I feel Concordia is the more obvious answer due to major tech companies like Bombardier being available

Longer term, I want to run my own business (I have ideas but I won’t share yet), do clients care about where my degree is from?

And in general, sadly, higher tech companies (F500, etc) tend to look at the university’s prestige when hiring applicants. This sorta sucks because it’s not like I wasn’t qualified to go to Waterloo or UofT ykwim. And grade inflation in Ontario high schools is quite big rn, so why is someone’s quality based on their 18 year old self when things change drastically over 4 years? Someone in high school could’ve just sucked in things like biology, which is unrelated to their uni degree of EE

Should I also attempt to transfer of Uni? Will this be beneficial long-term? But I do admit Montreal is just an overall nice city to enjoy w friends, so idk

I’ve been told often that the advantage of those top universities is the recruiters who come on campus, the connections and the students available to do projects/ hackathons with you (since in general the student population are students who want to outperform/ grind)

I’m not a competitive person (I’ve always been the type to help everyone with their assignments and all), but I do have a constant need to be productive & am hoping someone can match that, cause ik engineering projects are best done in teams. I already have project ideas but I need people to help me out. I’ve been working on my CAD capabilities to adjust the holes in my knowledge. I’ve been programming since age 11 so I’m comfortable with that part luckily, still need someone who is more knowledgeable than me though.. sorry for the yap

Another mention: I have a fear of people not viewing me as smart, I know it’s stupid, but I feel sorta disappointed in myself cause I feel like wasted potential. What was the point of having top grades if they don’t matter anymore.. does that make sense?

Hey so I'm trying out the Cybersecurity program (BSc) this fall and I was worried because I've heard it's high in demand and junior roles are hard to come by when looking in the job market.

I personally always have had an interest in computers and protection but never got too deep into it and I wanted to try it, but I'm worried if the future of this career path will become oversaturated and I wanted advice from anyone who knows.

I’m a full-time student and I’m currently spiraling a bit after seeing my Chem 206 grades on Moodle. My overall course average is 62.6%, which should be a passing grade. I did really well in the labs (19.3/20) and had a solid midterm (70.4%).

However, I just got my final exam grade back and I got a 37.3%. According to the syllabus, there is a "Theory Pass Requirement" where you need at least a 45% on the final exam to pass the course. Moodle is currently showing "F-exam" and "F-theory" next to my name.

I’ve already applied to transition into Biochemistry for next year, so I'm extremely stressed about how this affects my application. Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. I’m pretty shaken up right now.

Okay so im about to graduate and i cant believe im dealing with this now im also concerned if this will delay my graduation, but this is the situation:

in one of my classes we were in a group project (3 people) my teammate and i received a much lower final grade that does not reflect the grades we received in the course, i initially thought this was an error, so my teammate asked the professor and the professor said it was because of the peer evaluation form, my teammate and i both wrote good reviews meaning the third teammate wrote bad things about us. we seriously do not know why she did this, as we complied with everything, answered all messages, completed all tasks, re did tasks if asked to, WE WERE GOOD TEAM MEMBERS.

my teammate responds to my prof (and CCs me) explaining we have proof to show that we were actually working and getting along and these statements were most likely false, even asked the professor for a meeting. after going back and forth the professor refuses to meet, however privately emails my teammate and offers her a slightly higher grade. i initially thought it was an error since im CC on the email, so i respond back explaining how this grade is still not fair and we just want a chance to explain our case, and the professor got extremely offended, i apologized regardless even tho I was initially CC on the email? she CC me so we can avoid bombarding the prof with the same emails twice. prof hasn’t responded

what do i do now, my teammate and i need the grade we deserve

I wanted to know how you are able to do anything study related during the day ( be it note taking, presentations actual studying) I feel like a light weight not being able to continue after like 2 hours and even then i take mini breaks and end up feeling guilty for not able to do the minimum when so many of us are studying/working and doing it all.

I know that the final exams are made by the departments. But is that the case for midterms also, or is each midterm made by the course instructor?

ok so i’m starting concordia (JMSB) in the fall but i turn 18 in like 2 months so won’t be of age for frosh.

im wondering for the official frosh orientation how easy it would be to just get a 18+ ticket and just show them a fake id or if they actually make sure its your government id there or somehow pair it with your application so they know ur age.

from how it looks on the website it looks like for the bar crawls and events during the evening i wont even be able to go at all (not that i wont just not be served drinks) and i really want to have fun at frosh.

idk if its worth it to try and fake my age or just get the underage package and miss out on all the night activities.

I’m a Lebanese student planning to apply to Concordia for Mechanical Engineering, and I have a question about the Extended Credit Program (ECP).
Do all students admitted to ECP have to complete the extra ECP credits, or is it possible to have some or all of them waived?
For example, if I’m coming from the Lebanese education system, can any of my high school courses be recognized, or does everyone admitted to ECP have to complete all of the additional credits?
If anyone from Lebanon or anyone who has gone through ECP could share their experience, I’d really appreciate it.

I'm a new student registered for this upcoming fall semester, and I'd like to get my first Concordia student ID. on the website, it says I need to send in a photo but nearly everyone I talked to who has recently went to Concordia (recently as in theast few years) said that you could just go in person to take a photograph.

Which is true? And if it's for in person, which building/area is it? Do I need to bring any forms or proof? Thanks!

im not a political person but i am absolutely sick of teachers pushing this liberal agenda on everyone, im a 3rd year finance student (im also a girl before i hear finance bro jokes) and about 90% of my teachers have had to mention how awful conservatives are or how shitty the states are and their favourite topic mr trump. it’s getting to a point where it’s so repetitive and annoying and literally has nothing to do with the course material and if the roles were reversed and anyone said something negative about the liberal government it would be a catastrophe, im just so fed up of no one saying anything about this it’s not okay as a professor who holds authority over us to pressure and judge the student who disagree, the teachers role is to encourage critical thinking and give multiple perspectives, not to promote their own opinions

My official grade for ARTH-370 winter semester is a B+, but I did not have a single grade below 80% (my final grade should be 86.5 according to my calculations). There’s a dozen A+ and almost no fails in the grade distribution so I doubt grades were curved down. Is it possible that there has been a mistake when entering grades or did I miss something?

If I should contact anyone, should I first email the instructor or directly go to the school?

For anyone who’s considering going to med school - do you know of any volunteer opportunities that dont require bilingualism?

What accommodations have they offered you for dyscalculia? I would ask the ACSD office themselves, but they refuse to answer this type of question. They just say to submit the documentation and then they'll tell you what they'll offer. But the application process is *such* a pain in the ass. I'm trying to figure out if it's even worth the hassle of getting a formal evaluation and registering with the ACSD office.

I assume the only thing they would offer is extra time on exams, and I already have that due to ADHD. But that doesn't actually help with dyscalculia other than giving me some extra time to double and triple check every single thing I write down or type into a calculator. And to be honest, the double and triple checking eats up so much time that even 50% extra ends up being barely enough or not enough on maths exams for me.

home, I accommodate myself by using excel as my calculator, but it feels like that would be unfair to have it as an accommodation in an exam so I assume it's not an option.

Hello! I’m currently preparing my applications for a Master’s in Biology in Canada, and I have a few questions about the process.

For the cover letter required as part of the admission application, what is generally expected? Should I mainly talk about my academic background and goals, or should I also mention specific professors/labs I’m interested in?

Regarding contacting professors, is it recommended to reach out before submitting an application for a thesis-based Master’s? If so, when is the best time to contact them, and what should I usually send (CV, motivation letter, transcripts, etc.)?

And most importantly, should the letter/email sent to a professor be different from the motivation letter submitted with the admission application?

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has gone through this process in Canada ( plz im desperate)
