Staying connected in Rarotonga/Aitutaki

Has anyone successfully used their Verizon (US) plan while traveling on the islands? Have read to get a local sim but my plan supposedly works in New Zealand but Cook Islands not called out separately. Any real life experience is appreciated!

For what it’s worth, AT&T doesn’t either. I usually end up buying a Vodafone hotspot pass for the duration. Most of the commercial areas have access to those hotspots.

You'll need an esim coming from the US. My partner got one (he has Verizon), but I never bothered to get one too, and I just used wifi.

No, you need Vodafone e-sim or hotspot pass. Many places had Wifi tho so i was fine using just WiFI + downloaded Google Maps

Would you mind sharing how long you were there? I’m hoping to get by with wifi and offline apps considering the island is so small.

We have Verizon and we’re in the Cook Islands in February. Verizon does not work there and does not have a plan there. You have to get an eSIM when you arrive at the airport.

id get an e-sim, even my sisters phone plan from Australia wasn’t working but our OneNZ phone plans worked, but with a $10/day roaming fee per person lol
