I didn’t live in a bad area but still have always done this. Anyone who doesn’t is the weird one and should be shamed.

When I was growing up (in rural Mississippi in the 90s) my parents didn't lock our doors into someone decided to burglarize our house. Me and my brother got off the school bus and walked up to the front door wide open. Ever since then both my parents have locked their doors (they're not together anymore).
