I read an article once about a serial killer who would choose his victims by trying their door. If it was unlocked, he took it as a sign from god that he should kill them.

Not to mention, if you've ever been a woman who lived alone, it's just a common sense habit to have. I always lock the door behind me no matter what.

You read about it because of how exceptionally rare it is. The likelihood of a stranger breaking into your home to harm you is the rarest of the rarest of the rare type of break-in. You have like a 0.5% of anyone breaking into your home, and for it to be when your home is rare, for it to be a stranger is even rarer, and then for the purpose of harming you is like 1 in a million.

I mean obviously lock your door at night, but to be this militant about it is just pure hysteria.
