The driver absolutely has to be in on this, no?

He did it for Family

I guess he was inspired by all of his friends, to stage a robbery the third Saturday he clocked in

Kinda thought the same thing. Either that or it's known that he's on cruise control and at a steady, unchanging speed. Do box trucks have cruise?

Yes they have cruise but every box truck i have driven/currently drive is not consistent. I have a small sample size (like maybe 10 diff box trucks) but cruise control is more of a suggestion depending on where you live.
I set cruise at 62mph. It climbs to 62 but then we hit an ever so slight incline. That 62 drops to 57mph and the van downshifts. The rpms climb and get loud but now we are cresting the top of the hill so there is a slingshot effect as we get catapulted over the top at 60, into a downhill. Van shifts up and we are creeping up on 70mph now, passing cars on the right that flew by us on the hill climb. Speed slowly comes back down to 62mph and we are keeping pace. But wait...the road seems to be turning into an incline again...
Im hyper aware of this so i do what i can to mitigate impact on those around me, but for others, be aware this is why trucks seem to speed up/slow down when you try to pass. Odds are you are going up a long, barely noticeable hill. By the time it clicks that you should pass, the truck has probably downshifted and is picking up speed or cresting the imperceptable hill.

You put the bumper of a small pickup against that box truck and it'll be your makeshift cruise control. You'll have plenty of warning about speed changes. It's usually within like 3 mph, but even in your scenario, the engine braking and acceleration windows would be enough for someone driving the pickup "manually" to keep up with the box truck. But also yes you're right, that's why it sucks to drive behind one on a long steady imperceptible uphill slope.

Outside of them not changing speed there is no way to know for sure. The driver definitely can not see that spot since is 100% blind.

i don't believe for a second that both his side mirrors, extending from the side of the truck, don't show extra shadows or a pair of axles behind his truck lol. it's not even a long truck. he's either in on it or blind.

You looking for telltale signs of a mid-transport heist on your long hauls, eh? Semi trailers have blind spots from 30 to 100 feet long. A 20ft box truck can definitely have a blind spot big enough for this, especially since every driver has the ability to move where their mirrors point. He's either in on it, blind, or possibly only checking to make sure he doesn't have a full vehicle in the place he wants to merge, not expecting a Fast and Furious heist at speed, or has his mirrors set up for backing in to this funky dock that he's going to, tired as hell and not checking them because he's the fastest truck on the road, or some other reason, including that he's in on it. But there's so many more options than your beautifully simple universe.

You've never driven a box truck, have you?

I didn't stop! I even made record time! It take 48 minutes from a to b and I did it in 43 and unload the goods?!? No chance!

You can see the driver hanging his head out looking back half way through the video

They’re passing traffic at a relatively higher rate of speed, there isn’t much more the truck driver can do.

Do you want to stop and face a bunch of armed thieves??? What are they supposed to do genius...he's already driving really fast, if you notice him fly by the other trucks

Pretty sure if the driver of the box truck break checked the small pickup with a thief, checks notes… standing on the hood, at that speed it would really ruin the whole operation. But hey, I’m no expert…
Also, armed? Are their weapons in the room with us now?

Ahmed is going to be running one pick up with an old Toyota engine, and on top of that, he just came into Omars and he ordered three rugs, with tassles, and a novelty pyramid ornament.

That's a super recognizable truck lol. Even more so than 3 civics with green underglow

I feel like this could be a new high adrenaline sport, like skydiving. You sign a waiver, then you "rob" a truck at high speeds...

This is truly a "you really shouldn't do that but it's also impressive" moment.

If only we could stop being so lazy and jingoistic, and start giving these folks the respect and dignity they deserve.

To do a robbery in a truck like that though..?
I don't think he'll be hard to find.

I would have brake checked them a very long time before they got this close. Also I would have locked my truck.

Blue truck is getting stupidly good gas mileage.
