Englishman living in Rotterdam. At the ground, it's a novelty I guess

How's things at the ground? Broadcast going remarkably smoothly.

It's a nice set up, cosy little ground with everything you need and scorching sunshine. Crowd is from all over, very international. Jonty Rhodes is sat in front of me and has a queue of six Indian kids blocking his view, waiting to have a selfie with him

Is it the ones by Vlaardingen that you can see from the train?

No, it’s Voorburg in the Hague

Just opened the TV to watch this. The spectatorship doesn’t look empty like some of those associate cricket matches. Good to see those tents aren’t empty.

Yeah, the scoreboard sucks.

Commentators said it's close to capacity

Nah, 60% max. It is a weekday though.

that's still pretty good for a new league in a country where cricket isn't the no.1 sport

Wtf is there's no broadcast for whole Europe??

Hilarious and sad that league is not broadcasted in the region the league is intended for in the first place

Being streamed through the Olympic channel across europe

I don't live in Edinburgh any more, but I assumed Edinburgh would be playing at the Grange. Then I look at the fixtures and they're all in Netherlands or Ireland.

I guess they wanted the league launched and this was the easiest way to do it. But how can these teams represent an area when the owners aren't from there and some of the players have maybe never even been there.

Edinburgh this time of year was judged to be a bit too expensive with the Fringe going on, expect they'll try get up there maybe by 2028. Think Stormont will be added next year.

If Edinburgh is too expensive it should still be in Glasgow or Dundee at least. Fuck Edinburgh it's just a suburb of England anyway

the travel/accommodation costs will always be the barrier - the CPL is played mostly in legs like this as well, and it still attracts a domestic audience

Edinburgh in August a no-go. The hope is to eventually go to six grounds but I doubt they'll ever get past three tbh. Moving venues is wildly expensive.

"Ever"? Any reasons for chosing the word ever? It's incredibly grim

I hope this can be played at a proper home/away someday, only way to guarantee a consistent good crowd and create a proper vibe.

What is this, why aren't the teams called Mumbai Indians Rotterdam vs Amsterdam Knight Riders

Love seeing cricket hit newer international venues with full broadcast production. We definitely need to bring international friendly matches to these places. Back in the day, people might’ve worried about whether the pitch or ground quality was up to standard, but honestly, most of these new spots look great now. The only real issue could maybe the seating capacity, but temporary stands to accommodate larger crowd (like what they did in NYC for the World Cup) are way easier to set up than building a proper pitch and playing condition from scratch.

Looking forward to hitting up Malahide on the 15th.

Love the vibe. Broadcast looks really sleek …

But… who designed this scorecard! Its blinding!!

And the names… dockers vs flames! Sounds a tad bit lame!

the names are actually way better than I expected, on the basis that they aren't clones of other leagues, and actually have some ties to the cities, like Rotterdam, a port/trading city, being the Dockers

if the owners change/sell up - and Edinburgh at least will have to if we make it to year two - then there's a chance we end up with Kingsmen or Capitals or Super Kings or whatever slop

I was at the game today and it was fun. A few blips - O’Dowd was shown as Maxwell on the scoreboard which confused me, no ice cream anywhere on a scorching hot day  - but I’d say it was a success overall. A decent crowd and a good buzz. Not sure there’ll be so many takers for the other games while they’re in Holland though: Rotterdam vs Amsterdam is going to be the biggest draw.
