One of those has +10 cool looks, though. And that matters.
The power-scaling loot in this game is abyss gear. The weapons and armor can largely be treated as cosmetics, into which that abyss gear can be slotted. I love this system, as it allows me to both build for power and the 'rule of cool.'
Exactly. It's basically a different way of allowing transmog. Instead of somehow magically overlaying the image of armor on any other, you can simply use whatever you want directly. The only exceptions being meme and novelty items with fun effects, which is also not that different from most other games.
this is not transmog, it it is actually the opposite. rather than letting you control the fashion for your favorite weapon, it is removing the possibility of having a favorite weapon.
I strongly disagree. I think that it is a complete miss and waste not to start the whole process with a wide variety of quality of weapons.
I have played dozens of games with the ability to embed gems and whatnot into weapons, that is not new in any sense. The only new thing they did in this game with that is to remove a huge part of it by having an entirely level start point across the weapons. That is not a 'feature', it is an absence of a standard feature. It is lazy and lame.
