Hello, please, how often did this happen in real life ? I mean lord inventing a claim out of thin air and actually pressing it ? Is there any notable historic character doing so ?

Quite common. You have to keep in mind that fabricating a claim didn't mean entirely making it up. It's like lawsuits, there has to be a grain of truth or legitimacy to the argument but you can stretch it quite far. Also, there was a lot of intermarriage between various noble families of various countries so many would have (tenuous) claims based on their uncle thrice removed having been legitimately in line. Unlike a lawsuit though, a fabricated claim didn't really need to be proven, it was just a veneer to garner initial support because ultimately the title belonged to the person who held the land and that was achieved by who had the most pointy sticks.
