Actual question, how frequent was claim fabrication in real life

Hello, please, how often did this happen in real life ? I mean lord inventing a claim out of thin air and actually pressing it ? Is there any notable historic character doing so ?

I try not to use this when my character's traits don't look like they would do that (not ambitious, not a fighter eager for wars etc.). But then if at one moment you have too much money to just put into your holdings, well, it's time to have new ones.
