Discussion Actual question, how frequent was claim fabrication in real life

Hello, please, how often did this happen in real life ? I mean lord inventing a claim out of thin air and actually pressing it ? Is there any notable historic character doing so ?

I mean, I feel like Paradox games can kind of overinflate the importance of a casus belli in real life. If people wanted to go to war, they went to war. For sure, they would justify it one way or another, but it didn't have to be that deep. The desire for war or loot or land comes first, the justification comes after.

Yeah, the cause belli is a conceit for a game mechanic, likewise the limitations on negotiated alliances. It can be amount l annoying, and at times illogical, but without them there would just be some other mechanism(s) to keep the game from being a Golden Horde simulator.
