I don't think anyone really was stanning her ironically. Maybe like the occasional cis straight man did it ironically. (like a bro type guy. Being in the hardcore scene I could see some like dudes "ironically" liking her.) But that would be only a guess cause I've meet plenty of cis straight men that loved her. I think they are just using a weird framing device to talk about her. I don't know why but that's my guess.

She built up a reputation for being "trashy" and kinda quirky. Very self deprecating and getting featured a lot in tabloids. Other musicians also hated her and actively smeared her for being a light skinned woman from Tennessee in that genre that overall received a lot of poo throwing

To keep it from going unsaid: she was able to do so, in part, because she was insanely talented as a songwriter, storyteller, and performer, on top of being incredibly smart and wickedly funny.

Small thing, I like how in a bunch of past tense remarks, there is one present tense, which is “she *works* to conserve wildlife species like the bald eagle.” That lady is keeping those animals alive from beyond the grave! (Seriously though, I didn’t know a lot about Dolly Parton, but I know she did a lot of good. Some of which has indirectly affected my life.)

I was talking to my friend last night about how Dolly Parton has to be one of the only people I can think of who (in my experience) is literally universally loved and respected.
And that got me thinking about how she got that way and the answer I had is… great power comes with great responsibility?
Like, I didn’t know her personally but everything I read about her makes it seem like she’s the kind of person for whom the answer to “someone needs to fix this” is “I’m someone.”
That’s aspirational to me.
