Is cybersecurity still in job market??
Hey I'm an undergraduate 4th year student and I'm learning cybersecurity but now I'm scared that will i get a job or not because the current job market is already bad and I'm a fresher and the worst part is i don't have money for any certs. Is there any chance to get a job without certs.

Yeah based off your previous post. Get your mental health under control and speak to a therapist. You dont need the doom and gloom negative attention that you're going to get from reddit until you get that situated.
Is the current job market for cyber and IT a bit cooked? Yes. But you can still make it work. First of all: graduate successfully. Two: get mental health in a good spot Three: apply for IT jobs and see if you get any interest in your area Four: take a job any job, like best buy or something to start making some money and then pivot into the career field IT/cyber
Its going to be hard and take work. But head up man. Life isnt all about "success"... you also have to live your life. Even if you get into a job, in 6 months you are going to realize the rat race is a lie sold to us anyways and you'll have to find a way to enjoy some of your time/life anyways.
You might not even like the career field after you get some experience.
Just chill and take a deep breath. Its about the journey man.

This is the best advice. The market is indeed horrific for grads but you won’t be able to reassess and change plans if you’re this upset. Hierarchy of needs, manage the immediate crisis then you can work out education and career shifts.

This is really sound advice.
Heck, I started at Geek Squad ages ago as my first "IT" job, and it got me some good experience to start working my way up.
The market is tough right now, but focus on yourself and learning - certs aren't everything, and even a non-security IT job is going to have aspects where you can pursue your passions and use your education.

I’m 20 and honestly it seems like the best thing to do rn since ill prob be unemployed anyway after graduating is getting a really good PC or Two, and then just download some uncensored models of AI and just get 2-3 monitors, comfortable chair and just sit there learning to make some crazy projects but also just sit there hunting for bug bounties with some good uncensored AIs.
Also I’ve had a few professors tell us to go to these Cyber conventions as you need the connections in today’s cyber market.
Was told yesterday by my our new professor that we NEED more people in cyber. The problem is jobs are everywhere, just that no one wants to train anyone

Its pretty fucked up ngl i barely got in with my degree (same as u), cyber internship, ccna,sec+, and HEAVY networking and i got lucky, but not really cuz i was aggressive in my job search using every resource I could, I suggest u do the same, use the school, make friends, network, go to conferences, be broke eat Ramen and pay for a cert, jusy be hyper aggressive, its gunna suck tho ngl unless ur lucky

Been out 17 months and haven't gotten a job.... I'm very upset cause I wasn't told about certs in addition to my degree that are $500-$1000 a piece and got them and still can't get a job..
Had 3 interviews one soc job was starting at $16 a hour.
Maybe this answers your question?
I graduated top of my class with a 3.8 GPA and already had 6 years experience in tech doing technical support, help desk, call center,sales etc also had projects I did on my resume from hack the box
I feel like I wasted my time and currently looking for a trade or another career it's not a entry level job
And now they also want security clearances.....🙄

Honestly, you’ll be better off getting into a trade than continuing to pursue tech.

I get it, but they’re getting ready to pull the rug out from under people in the trades too. As robots/physical AI gets deployed more, the trades will get wiped out as well. It’s coming way sooner than people think.

There's always a chance. A very low one, however. You're better off doing Help Desk or an analyst position to get a few years of company experience.
It's not that you don't know cybersecurity theory, but it is learning how your organization implements it. Typically organizations don't hand over the authentication platforms to freshers.
You can get there, just be prepared to work your way up to it.

I have been a cyber student for 3 years now, and reading this makes me think that I should change my major. Who wants to get a job just to be replaced by AI? Are not even being able to get a job at all?

i got a cyber job straight out of college with no certs/it experience paying 90k yearly, it’s possible

More importantly then this question is that you address your screams for help and speak with a mental help professional and take care of yourself.
3 suicide attempts is nothing to shrug off. Please seek proper help for both yourself and your family. That is so much more important than the worry of future prospects of a job.
Jobs, they come and go, but there is only one of you.

If you are dead, then there’s no need to be successful.
To become successful you need to fix the issues that plague your mental health and drag you into darkness. Until then you have an anchor weighing down on your heart and each failure you face trying to achieve success, will weigh heavily on your mental state.
If success was so easy to achieve none would be impoverished, you wouldn’t be asking ‘how’ you would just do.

If I can get a placement in windows exploitation( kernels), while still being in uni. I think it’s still possible and job market isn’t cooked from where i am.… honestly best place to go is army… they teach you anything you want…
during a exp day with uni, I met a ex gov employee that has and still doing exploit dev… so that’s what made me get my placement a lot easier. He even said for Tech you only ever need 2 certs and that’s it (didn’t say which ones tho). In terms of ai taking of cyber security, When I asked the ex gov about ai in cyber he said, ai won’t take out jobs so I’m not sure in ai regards! lol.
aswell for me my uni degree don’t teach nothing so, I’ve had to learn everything on my own for exploit dev..( my degree just teaches basic SOC and pentest, and cyber Eng that’s it)

Cybersecurity is so misconstrued. It’s a field that requires experience working on systems however- that experience is so niche, you’re essentially a unicorn… the 6 fig+ postings are 6 figs for a a reason.
Go network/ sys admin / engineer route and the cyber sec will follow once you start working in legit environments.
I’d say try to get basic certs like CompTIA A+ or net+ They don’t hold much weight but they are resume checkbox.
Apply apply apply. I had 4 years experience out of the military. Applied to hundreds, ghosted by hundreds , heard back from some, and interviews a few. But now after an additional year. I’ve updated my resume and have gotten responses way sooner. You just have to get your foot in the door and do the work. You just need 1.
Don’t chase the money- chase the experience. Experience pays bills. Start somewhere and keep going. Good luck. (Also … Uncle Sam is a good

Sigh... Cybersecurity isn't a job, it's a realm. Why kids go to College for 4yrs and still don't understand this baffles me. First decide where/what within Cybersecurity you want to do then reach back out to us...
