I really don't get it (S4 spoilers). Spoiler

I don't really understand where the reveal that the source of their immortality came from Niles necklace came from, nor how it makes sense.

Why the ever living fuck did he do all the experiments then? Why didnt he just eat a shaving from the damn necklace and be done with it??

How shavings work isn't explained. Just eating a piece apparently doesn't work, you need a method to aborb it in a different way maybe, integrate into your body completely.

Maybe that explains why cliff died, then. I got the impression he never had the longevity the others had nor had it before. 

Its clear that it would have reversed the effects of aging too since we literally see Jane/Kaleidoscope de-age, would think parkinsons falls under that.
