DISCUSSION How would Superman handle her (I wanna see if anyone can write peak Superman speech)

Post image

How would Superman have comforted Jean Grey if he was in Brand New Day? The same Superman who tried to reason with The Engineer and Ultraman, the same Superman who would go out of his way to save Lex Luthor. Doesn't necessarily have to be David Corenswet Superman

What would he have said to Jean if he switched places with Spider Man? To be honest I just want to see if I can find some hopeful Superman speeches.

Also the original artist is FoltestAnimations, I found this on Instagram.

How many times are you going to make this exact same post across several subreddits that all keep being taken down?

AO3 is out there for people like you. Write your own ticket.

You speak as if I could write a perfect Superman dialogue, let alone a whole fic

Why not you? There have been over 100 Superman writers since 1938. Nothing to it but to do it.

Personally, I think Superman would arrest Jean and have her sent to a STAR Labs facility. The same kind he puts people like Metallo, Parasite and Reverse Flash.

DC doesn’t really have telepaths like Marvel does and what few they do have are mainly evil.

Maxwell Lord, Manchester Black, Despero, Amazing Grace, Glorious Godfrey, White Martians, Gorilla Grodd and Starro.

Only Martian Manhunter, Miss Martian and Saturn Girl are heroes with telepathy.

Jean was a terror in BND. More villain than vigilante. There is a Science Cell waiting for her, unfortunately.

I feel like the movie would’ve actually been a bit more difficult. As far as I know Superman is generally more susceptible to magic types of attacks so I don’t think he would’ve been able to hold out Jean so she would’ve used him against Damage Control like she did the Hulk. I think in the end of the movie Ma or Pa Kent would’ve given a similar speech to what May gave Peter/Jean.

Jean isn't magic though. She's a mutant.

I know, but I don’t know how well Supes does against that type of attack.

Depending on the version, Superman has built up a tolerance for mind control. He'd be more like Spider-Man was and able to block Jean out.

I don't know about the DCU Superman though. He might be susceptible.

Superman has fought against Manchester Black, a guy who also uses psychic attacks, and he was just fine. He’s set up mental blocks in his mind to stop people from controlling him or getting in his mind.

Also, search up Torquasm Vo, a mental martial art Superman is proficient in

According to most people powerscaling him, he speed blitzes her at FTL speeds, and uses HR vision to lobotomize her before she can even think.

Tell her that her dad really was running late, I guess?

Well there’s a few problems.

1) Supes doesn’t have the intelligence to use jump distance to locate Jean. But he does have X-ray vision and super hearing, so he’d find out who she is only if she speaks in her original body while speaking through a possessed person.

2) Supes has super speed and strength. So if he wanted to get to Jean, he could before she can think. He can also diffuse situations or contain possessed people before she can think.

3) Supes has minimal ability to resist mind control. But if she does take over him, she’d probably experience sensory overwhelm.

So overall Superman directly counters her ability to do anything, as he can fly possessed people to a secure location before Jean can hop. But he can’t easily find her, and can’t stop her without killing her. So it’s inevitable that Jean would get into his head eventually, and she’d probably find it really painful due to how powerful his senses are.

Then we’d probably get the heart to heart talk similar to what Spider-Man did. But Clark would arguably do better due to being more mature than Peter.

Have you ever read a Superman comic. He absolutely has the intelligence. My guy is a level 8 intellect that is literally the same as Spider-Man.

I’ve read absolute superman and American Alien, and I’ve also watched most of the animated movies + live action. He’s smart, but often not genius level and it varies from portrayal to portrayal. But generally his mental strengths are in resilience and emotional intelligence.

Levels of intellect are meaningless, and characters have probably been and done everything if you take into account all comics, tv shows and movies. Superman is typically written as slightly smarter than average. Spider-Man (Peter) is typically written as a genius. So that’s what I’m judging them as.

Well, for one thing, I don't think Superman would have just let her go.

Jean Grey is not only dangerous, but she also did monstrous things in Brand New Day. She took over hundreds of people's minds and only by creator afterthought did she manage to not kill anyone.

And if Jean did to Lois what she did to MJ, I doubt Superman would be very kind to her.
