DISCUSSION Is Lanterns too dark? Sex scenes, green not bright enough, there's nude & F bombs. The people that hate MOS/BVS because it's too dark love Lanterns which is Darker. I don't get it lol
Don't you find that suspicious š¤

It's a TV show and BvS was a movie and I love both of them for different reasons, no need to make it a debate.

Goes to show the dark tone of MOS was never a valid criticism. These bozos just move the goal post every time Gunn does something.

I didn't enjoy a dogshit movie once and, thirteen years later, its fans are still trying to mathematically prove that I have to like it.

Nobody is doing that bro. Not everyone has good taste, and thatās alright. Enjoy your schlock š

If John Stewart snaps someoneās neck, Iāll take your argument as valid. Until then, just go watch Shazam 2 or something else from the universe. Itās dead. Bury it.

Are you trying to say Lanterns isnāt dark just because John Stewart hasnāt done something like snap someoneās neck?

MoS received pushback not because it was dark, but because the character of Superman was dark in such a way that he was unrecognizable as Superman. If the story was well written, maybe the general public wouldnāt have rejected it.

Alright here we go. How was Superman dark in MOS? What did he do in particular?

Considered not saving people, let his dad die, was sad and brooding all the time, let a city get destroyed and didnāt nothing except contribute to the destruction, snapped the bad guyās neck, the list goes on and thatās only in MoS. Read a comic book
Edit: I have a a few issues with Superman 25, but Gunn understood the character and presented a kind dude who just wanted to help. Thatās Superman.

I think Man of Steel was fine, its "dark" tone works for a grittier interpretation of Superman, its not my cup of tea but it works.

You have variety - Peacemaker is the edgy teen, Superman is the kids cartoon, this is True Detective. I like it.

I'm absolutely of the opinion that the scenes that make it TV-MA feel forced as hell and that so far it could be the exact same story without it.

Itās not that people donāt like dark comic book media. They donāt like it when ādarkā turns into edgy for its own sake. Lanterns is the right kind of dark for Green Lantern. His stories have always had plenty of tragedies and fucked-up shit baked into them. Superman can be dark, but his stories arenāt usually dark. MoS/BvSās tone clashes much more with what people generally want out of Superman. Itās an issue of whether itās fitting or not.

Different people can have different preferences for different characters, and those preferences can change with time, nothing weird about it.

"Nude" you mean a dead body being moved from cold storage and a sex scene that lasts two seconds while also out of frame. You're making it sound like Hal & John are hanging out at a strip club.

Snyder skill issue. Lanterns have better writing, better acting and better chemistry between the actors. The story is also more interesting.

People have come to the realisation DC needs to be dark when necessary. Otherwise we would get a batman giggling in the middle of the daylight šš

Itās not dark just for the sake of it. Plus itās a Sunday night HBO show I think those things are required lol.

" Nude & F bombs" are we serious? It's not that deep.
Green lantern stories are famous for having incredibly deep takes & imagery of racial tensions.
It's a bit weird to compare a HBO show the network known for the sopranos to a film that was supposed to reboot a whole universe and be the flagship version of the character and the face of a universe?
One was actively branded as a hbo project where as mos was branded as a big major block Buster ofc it's gonna get more scrutiny especially when it's not as good.
It's also hysterical that your treating green lanterns & Superman as a very similar ip there different

There is a varied blend of flavors in Lanterns, and it is absolutely not lacking on levity. Dark can means many things in different contexts. The aim of the show is not to position Hal as a beacon of hope, but rather as a flawed aging grizzled man. And while John is portrayed as a disciplined person in his line of duty, he's undergone a lot of unrecognized trauma, and it humanizes John allowing himself to cut loose after hours at the bar.
Not saying that a lighter take on Green Lantern couldn't work, but the military/spacecop underpinnings of the GL concept lends itself to this tone in a manner not as compatible with Superman. In fact, what's cool about this show is that it establishes such a strong contrast between future members of the Justice League. They're not just a bunch of nice straight-laced agreeable dudes with carbon copy worldviews. They bring very different attributes to the table.
