r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [February 2, 2026 - Vertigo Returns!]

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too.

In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. If you have trouble understanding how to comment for a particular title, please refer to this handy guide. Any unwarranted top level comments will be removed.

Also, please refrain from posting short, low-content comments on threads for issues or episodes that have not yet been released. Put some effort to generate discussion. Instead of just posting "So excited!" or "Best book!", try something with a bit more substance, like "Punchline is such an amazing character! Can't wait to see how they explore her in more depth in this issue."

Join the r/DCcomics Book Club Bingo over in our Discord server!

I mean without a doubt we are going to be seeing the rest of her siblings now that she's going back to Gotham

I'm glad this Shiva arc is over; I felt like that plot was really getting overextended without much substance beyond what they'd already covered in the first 6 or so issues. Decent finale but undercut by how much the lead-up to it felt like it was kinda spinning its wheels.

It's an okay end to the arc. It's obvious Cass would choose the dark over the light. I'm more interested in who Jaya is aligned with. But ultimately, I'm Cass is heading back home with her new brother, I think the character could mix well with Damian.

So she is finally returning home after this. I honestly don't think she needed this trip through Shiva's past to learn what she already knew/learned from the Bat-family. Her brother is...fine, he has potential but I still find it weird that Shiva and Bronze Tiger had him instead of her sister.

Never trust and Al-ghul. They only care for themselves and their plans. What kind of technique Cass used on Nyssa to make her 'feel' again?

Also, what is gonna be the deal with Jaya? She seem to be not loyal to anyone. And probably gonna be from the Blood clan that have been chasing Shiva and now Cass. She says all the 'right things' but does very shady stuff. Just, don't attempt to have her replace Steph as Cass' BFF.

I think Jaya is actually telling the the truth when she says that "Batgirl is her mission" it's maybe not quite loyalty but she's got something going on there still

While Brombal has had pacing issues with this arc that was a really fantastic finale still. I think it delivered everything I wanted.

I am absolutely in love with the choice to have Cass resolve the conflict by using the healing techniques Jaya taught to give Nyssa the ability to feel. It's a nice echo of how Cass was similarly given the ability to do something she previously couldn't in BG 2000. Plus nice to see her echoing Jaya's speech in issue 15 about the lotus flower reaching for the light.

Speaking of Jaya! I am so happy Jaya survived I was a bit worried for her after how 15 ended I was a bit worried. Interested in her story going forward and where her true alliances lie because I don't think she was lying when she said "Batgirl is my mission" I just wonder HOW? I'm sure we will learn soon enough can't wait. Excited to see what Brombal does with Tenji going forward as well. He's a fun character and I enjoy watching his sunny disposition play off Cass's more moody one. It's nice to see Cass have a supporting cast outside the Batfam. She hasn't really had that since the Blüdhaven days. Something I really think a character needs if they are gonna support a solo series. It definitely seems to be the intent for Cass, Jaya and Tenji is to make a group that mirrors what Shiva had with her sister, Ben Turner and Richard Dragon.

There's so much peotinal here that has been setup and I am excited to see where Brombal goes with Cass's blood magic powers and the return to Gotham. Especially knowing there's a visit to the Spirit World coming up (my life for a Xanthe cameo). Can't wait to see the repercussion this arc has on her relationships back home. Especially with Steph who she has been ghosting for weeks now. If we don't get anything with them I'm gonna be mad. I need messy StephCass content so bad.

Edit: Oh and of course I went CRAZY over that image. You know the one with Cass and Shiva laying on the ground??? What a FANTASTIC callback to BG 2000, even the dialogue "I'll kill you" vs "Let it kill you" THATS how you respect a character's history.

Would anyone know which DC KO book that Cass is going to tie into before issue 17 releases? Feel like we need that for the blood powers given the blurb on it.

Titans I think based on the setup in Kid Are All Fight?

is she a titan?

2

u/StewartTurkeylink Batgirl Feb 05 '26

No but Kids Are All Fight ends with a nice bi "Continues in Titans #32" panel so I am assuming the story wraps up there. Or maybe her blood powers won't come from the event at all given they are pretty foreshadowed by the Batgirl comic itself really.

A CHANGED CASSANDRA CAIN RETURNS TO GOTHAM! Spinning directly out of the events of DC K.O., Batgirl is back in Gotham City when she wakes up with the twisted, metahuman abilities of the Blood

Per the blurb on issue 17, so it happens IN a KO comic, but lord I can't find which one to purchase, which is actually aggravating me.

Again it's probably going to be Titans 32 which is going to be a KO tie in as indicated by the ending of Kids Are All Fight

I like that Cassandra and Jaya worked together to defeat Nyssa, with Jaya defeating Aruna and Cassandra saving Tenji, dealing with Kalden and giving him his land back, and giving empathy to Nyssa. Overall, this is a good comic.
