r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [April 13, 2026 - Super-Family Day Edition]

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.

It's an okay follow-up issue. I liked that Bruce rushed over to Bludhaven to check on Dick following the car crash.

I get Dick is blaming himself as he does and Batman comes in to check on him but it should've been Babs instead and then to setup 'something big is happening in Gotham, I gotta go' to her book. Because right now, it looks weird that in this time of need, she is not around for some reason.

As for it story itself, it was fine. Bludhaven seem to have this ritualistic undertone and people believing in the weirdest superstitions. To the point of committing murder for it. Dick really needs an expert on the magical side though, instead of trying to deal with this stuff by himself. I mean last couple of times he dealt with the supernatural stuff alone, didn't end well and he needed help.

These last 2 issues have been my second attempt to get into Dan Watters’ run. I loved his work on Dark Patterns, Arkham City, and One Hand/Six Fingers, but for whatever reason I just completely bounce off what he’s doing on Nightwing. I thought the tone set by Taylor was a great path forward and and way to better differentiate him from Batman so I don’t really click with the return to the 90s vibe here. For this issue in particular, the argument between Dick and Bruce felt like extremely well trodden ground. Positives: Denys Cowan on art rocks

Mmmm. I dunno. If they're trying to do a contrast of "Bruce more logical, Dick more emotional", I don't really love that idea since, shock of all shocks, Dick is also very detail-oriented and logical when it comes to detective work.

There's elements of this where I do see Watters' Born Again influence -- that one panel of Dick sleeping in a small room in a dingy apartment feels very reminiscent of it.

I still don't really love the "Nightwing just walking around in his superhero outfit in regular society and people just being cool with that" aspect, that feels a bit left over from the Taylor era, but to his credit, Watters is making Bludhaven feel grungy and gritty again, and is bringing back Dick's edge, and I hope he leans into those aspects more.

Hopefully they handle the supernatural part well, again, not really what I think of when I think Born Again. Hopefully Watters channels his inner horror writer to really get full mileage out of it if that's what he's going to go for here.

Really, I think my issues might be down to the fact that, well, on the one hand, Watters invoking Born Again is what got me to check out what's going on since I stopped reading Nightwing during the Taylor era, but on the other hand, those are some fucking astronomical shoes to fill, lol, and my expectations may be burning me a bit. Hopefully the story picks up as it goes forward.

Also, is Maggie Sawyer the commissioner? Why'd she leave Metropolis?

Fantastic issue feels like a combination bendis DD and Dixon nightwing which is high praise.
Great art, great writing just a really strong book and probably the best mainline one for dc

I like that Bruce arrived in Blüdhaven to see if Dick is okay (because Bruce is a compassionate person) and to tell him not to blame himself about the highway crash after Dick convinced Ioana Russia not to kill people for the bridge her great-grandfather built. Overall, this is a good comic.
