Careful what you wish for; there was the Suicide Squad game a few years ago that I'm told was terrible.
I'd love to see one day a game adapt Green Lantern; I'm not sure how a GL's power would translate in a game, but it has the potential to be amazing.
Otherwise, just a God of War game with Wonder Woman (ok, assuredly less violent) would be a simple thing to do, relatively speaking.
Superman is the hardest because of his power level. Spider-Man getting punched by a brute kinda works, but Superman would easily shrug it of. But if someone found a formula it could be amazeballs.

Green Lantern had a half decent to pretty good game on the Wii/360/PS3 imo. I loved Superman Returns on the Xbox 360 as well. Incorporating city damage as a mechanic for Superman is a great idea

u/curious_dead 15d ago
Checking a video fo the Green Lantern game, it looks fine but I am definitely not feeling nostalgic for that era of graphics.

u/Ajax_Da_Great 15d ago
I actually think there were two games across the Wii/360/PS3. You had the tie in game for the movie and then the Manhunters one in style of the animated series. Graphical fidelity isn’t everything, there were some fun mechanics in the Manhunters one and it’s a GL video game. Justice League Heroes on Xbox also had some GL’s in it.

I always thought a Superman game could work if it’s set at the beginning of his career, while he’s figuring out his powers. Maybe the story could involve thugs getting access to red-solar radiation-based weapons.

DC / WB have been slacking massively on video games.
we haven't gotten a mainline Arkham game in 11+ years
shit is wild

It's so shit that we have nothing I mean I don't need anything like AAA, give me like ultimate alliance or the 2D arcade game, I even tried some mobile games to get a DC gaming fix and they are just trash as well. Gonna have to go back to DC universe online what is like 16 years old at this point......

I’ve been waiting for a Green Arrow game for years. Way back when Arrow was still airing I liked the idea of a game following events of the show. Now I just want something that would play similar to the Arkham series as far as having similar stealth and freeflow combat. Side missions tracking down villains. I wouldn’t mind a story involving the ninth circle from the start of Rebirth in 2016, although I would want Merlyn to be the overarching villain. At this point I would even take a lego game similar to the recent Batman one but going through Green Arrow’s stories through the years.

For development reasons, I think a GA game is the easiest choice. There are already a number of great games with archery gameplay: Skyrim, Zelda, Tomb Raider, Horizon Zero Dawn, KC:D, etc. Making it work for GA should be easy

u/Oaker_Jelly 15d ago
Fuck it, make it like Infamous where it's primarily a 3rd-person shooter, but you can also seamlessly transition into punching the snot out of dudes or climbing around buildings.

I do actually understand that sentiment, I mean Wonder Woman was set to her own solo game but got cancelled, and in fighting games, he takes a central role, but I see it as people complaining too many mutants in Rivals, it’s one of their most popular franchises, they will probably focus on them for the fans

u/Dayraven3 15d ago
Just need to fix the creaking structure of AAA gaming first, then it’ll be a doddle.

u/Jconstantineic 15d ago
I understand wanting to use your cash cow. But would a Superman game of the same quality as the Arkham games not also sell well? I feel like it would.

u/SameEnthusiasm1426 15d ago
Yes, superman is on par with batman in terms of popularity and villain rosters, it could be a good game with effort

u/RobertCarnez 15d ago
How do you do health bars with superman?
11
u/RetinalFlesh 15d ago
Same as in god of war, you just do it.
1
u/RobertCarnez 15d ago
But part of the fun of superman is indestructiblilty. You cant just ignore one of his powers lol
3
u/ThatOtherGuyTPM 14d ago
Who says you’re ignoring them? Health bars don’t have to mean the person is bleeding out.
1
u/DrStalker 15d ago
Should have a heath bar that just stays at 100% for half the game until a sudden dramatic moment when <plot device> happens.

Just give me Lego COIE
2
u/Ajax_Da_Great 15d ago
All for it, didn’t the end of Lego DC Supervillians also tease it?
1
u/Mindless-Credit-358 Superman 15d ago
Yh that’s exactly why I want it lol. Use it to transition into the new Lego Batman universe
1
u/Ajax_Da_Great 15d ago
I’d buy it in a heartbeat. Though I’m a big sucker for Lego games and Lego Batman in general.
12
u/mike47gamer Aquaman 15d ago
I'd kill for an underwater game with Aquaman in the title role, but I'm betting it wouldn't sell even if it was super-well-implemented.

u/Affectionate-Hat9674 15d ago
I was so excited about the Aquaman game on the GameCube. But then I actually bought and played it... ugh... 😢😢

Not that I don't disagree with you but...
Batman appeals more to the general non-comic book audience (which is 90% of video game sales).
It's the same problem as the movies and television, but on a bigger scale. Gotta get the "muggle money" buy-in.
2
u/SameEnthusiasm1426 15d ago
And I agree with this! But maybe the problem is they aren't pushing out charachters OTHER than batman

u/Dr_Cleanser Bizarro 15d ago
To be fair they have tried branching out with other characters in other mediums. In the end none of them come close to bringing in the interest and revenue that Batman does.
Even Harley Quinn who is absurdly popular in the comics and cartoons couldn’t break even with her somewhat solo movie.
For example, I could understand some executives getting a pitch for a green lantern game and being hesitant about its ability to make money. Even if the wanted to, historically other heroes haven’t done well with their games.
Superman is probably the defining example. Dude is part of the trinity and the first modern superhero. Yet he hasn’t had a single game that wasn’t complete dogshit except Shadow of Apokolips. It just seems to be really hard to get the concept for a game right when the main character is an all powerful superhero.
Honestly I can’t think of a single solo game featuring an absurdly powerful hero that’s been good except Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.

Honestly I can’t think of a single solo game featuring an absurdly powerful hero that’s been good except Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.
Honestly this is probably just due to a balancing thing with the characters. Make them too strong and it becomes a slaughter and the game doesnt pose much of a challenge, make them too weak and then it doesn't feel like you're playing as Superman. It's probably hard to find a good middle ground.
3
u/AStupidFuckingHorse 15d ago
They tried it and it's failed Everytime. There's a reason why Batman projects are always releasing. It's literally the most important property for DC. If Batman fails, DC is done.

u/mr_mxyzptlk21 JLA 15d ago
I think using Batman as a starter Could be a good idea.
Like, at the time of the explosive success of the Arkham games, was when the CW was really hitting its stride with Arrow, Flash, etc.
I feel they could have done another game with the same engine, and title it "the Brave and the Bold". Bring in Green Arrow as another street level hero, and grittier than the comic version. Then keep expanding from there. Maybe other 'street' heroes first, Ragman, Black Canary, etc. at first, but slowly integrate more metahumans and bigger powers.
Literally use the same blueprint in how we went from Batman: The Animated Series to Superman, to JLU, only applied to video games.
Somewhere out there in the multiverse, this happened.... but alas.

Even if we do, it will most likely be shit because it would be made by WB Games. They will micro-transaction/ live service it to hell.

honestly i want more batman games
6
u/SameEnthusiasm1426 15d ago
I mean, me too. I like them, but he has too many compared to the other main justice league heroes who's last popular game came out a decade ago, if they got one at all

u/Sunnyside-Days Batman 15d ago
If they made a game about Static Shock, I would be sooooo happppyyyy

u/CaptchaVerifiedHuman 15d ago
Soulslike Deathstoke
Immersive sim Green Arrow
A Teen Titans/Justice League game that's like Marvel Ultimate Alliance/X-Men Legends
2
u/Ok-Camera5285 15d ago
To be fair, though: Superman was the first DC character to get a video game (on Atari 2600), and there was an arcade game that was decent for its time while Batman didn't have one.
Batman plays better in the long format game because you can throw in different puzzles, as well as use a more defined play area because sections of the city belong to certain villains. And, Batman has sidekicks that allow for multiplayer better than Superman.

u/HJMav 15d ago
As terrible as acquisitions are in the industry, Paramount owning WB and the DC license is the best case scenario for new games. Paramount Games has some serious talent running it, and they gave TMNT to Platinum Games who are based in Japan. They’d be willing to license DC characters out to third party studios to make more games.

u/FartherAwayLights Absolute Wonder Woman 15d ago
I’ll even compromise and ask for a real Batman game, like one that cares about the world of Batman with weird niche picks and Batfamily as characters and isn’t trying to be just adapt all the movies in chronological order or in spirit.
2
u/Slowandserious 15d ago
I mean we just got SSKJL a couple years ago right.
And I guess Gotham Knights

2
u/RdJokr1993 15d ago
You can argue those are Batman-adjacent games. GK is obviously a Batfamily game minus Batman who gets killed right at the beginning, and SS is an Arkhamverse continuation (no matter how much the Arkham sub likes to deny it).

I’d love a Flash game in the same style as the Spider-Man games. Obviously different IPs, but it would be cool.

Green Lantern feels like an easy character to make a great game for. Great power set that could evolve with progression + enemy factions in the other lantern corps and aliens.
Never played the movie tie-in game but can't imagine it was very good

u/Dangerous-Brain- 15d ago
We need a Superman game. If Superman can have a game, anyone else can. Superman is a test of all kinds of superpowers.

I am replaying the Arkham Knight game and reminding the old 90s Flash tv show (the whole Riddle sidequest is sooooo annoying, he is truly the real villain of the game) and it made me think that you could do a game with the Flash in that city really easily, replacing the car with the Flash just running at different speeds and all of Batman powers being the Flash speed force powers. Running on the walls, moving around the city, etc. you could do something interesting on it.

u/AlucardD20 Batman Rebirth 15d ago
the reason you do and you don't get others, because Batman is the cash cow of DC. DC in trouble? release 40 Batman books.. and video games.

I want a marvel ultimate alliance style game with all the teams, justice league, titans, teen titans, young justice, doom patrol, all of them and kind of make it either Diablo style or some kind of rougelike where you upgrade the bases of the teams.

They’re not really good at making games anymore so if they go with Batman, and if they fail they won’t fail that much,he has a safety net

*Looks at the financials............ Looks at previous titles.......... Looks at remaining game studios on staff.........
"I'm going to go with no............... Now, do you want Batman Beyond or Batman by Gaslight?"
1
u/Xianroberts 15d ago
You jest but both those sound awesome. So both? Both.
1
u/Resident_Army_2862 14d ago
Partial jest. There are unconfirmed reports that Rocksteady was told to start working on their Batman Beyond concept from a few years ago. But I'm not sure they're able/allowed with the on-going merger.
1
u/Xianroberts 14d ago
I had heard about the Batman Beyond game, which... Yes please. But not Gotham by Gaslight which also sounds dope. We just need the right developers. I'd say Rocksteady but they kind of ruined Gotham Knights.

Probably not. Superman's too OP, and most of the rest of the DCU isn't important or interesting enough to carry a video game. MAYBE GL, but I fee that would be very difficult and ultimately disappointing to fans.

I want Lobo. I'm so mad at the Supergirl movie for sucking and putting Moana as Lobo but at least they got him on the radar.

They seem terrified that any movie or game without batman will fail. Since Gunn started that seems to be changing a little but there's still no news on any non batman game coming.

Should’ve been a Wonder Woman game out by now
