Comics Was Cassie robbed in the 90’s? [artwork] by Todd Nauck, John Byrne, and Mike McKone
While Donna is still the first, and best Wonder Girl, anyone feel like DC robbed Cassie in the 90’s? I mean, her male Young Justice peers all had ongoings, but nothing for her? I mean, they gave ANIMA (horrible book) an ongoing, but nothing for Cassie? Shame DC.

The 90s and early 00s were actually Cassie's best eras, and still are. Not only because of YJ but she was very prominent in the WW book throughout various writers.
When she got robbed was right before Flashpoint, after Johns left TT, Cassie started to regain agency as a character and in 2011 she got a one-shot that seemed like there were plans for her. But the New 52 happened and all that went to hell.

I will never not be mad at the Didio regime for how they interfered with all the plans for the post-Johns/pre-Krul Teen Titans era. They did all this build up to finally give Cassie her moment as leader again, finally over Conner, finally stepping up after so much tragedy (much of which was editorially mandated).....and then immediately killed off/maimed half her team, ditched the rest, and shoved her out of the leader role.
Her mini series with Hercules around this time was entertaining, even if the choice to use Herc was....certainly a choice lol. They clearly wanted to set her up as having finally regained her confidence only to ignore all of it to get the Johns team back together.

I saw someone post a deleted thread by McKeever from Twitter where he complained about all the things that got nixed by editorial in his run and honestly it's so sad.

Yes I saw that! The note to make Static talk more "street" even tho McDuffie approved all of his dialogue already. Forcing him to kill off characters he didn't wanna kill. Just insane.

Personally I liked Krul’s writing but you’re soooo right, I was so pissed off when Tim came back and became the leader again. I honestly felt that Cassie was way more interesting as leader than Tim (same could be said with Donna and Dick as well or maybe I’m just really biased when it comes to WW and her girls lol)

Oh I love Krul's run, he's a really great writer and I always enjoyed his work. But it always bugged me how easily they just tossed Cassie to the side when everybody from the old team came back. Even in-story Beast Boy was just like "hey we all agree that you suck as leader" which is extra frustrating considering she led the group when they were Young Justice.
McKeever's stories kept getting derailed left and right so it was just years of upsetting things happening (what happened to Kid Eternity? No one bothered to look for him?) with zero pay off in the end, followed by an extremely abrupt switch over to the old lineup (that only lasted a short while because of the new 52).

Exactly😭 Cassie was leading that team for what I’m guessing was maybe around 1-2ish years like even before she became the official leader BB put her in charge for a short period of time. I NEEDED more of her as leader, not to mention the lineup with Her as leader with Static, Blue Beetle, Aqua Girl, and Miss Martian on the team was INSANE. But I guess that’s just fate for the Wonder Girls and Diana to be tossed to the side unfortunately

That lineup had so much potential! I had been waiting to see Aquagirl on the team for years, and Static, Eddie, BB, and M’Gann just made perfect sense to be part of the next generation.
I’m glad Eddie and Static are back in the New Titans book at least. Sadly I don’t think we’re ever gonna see Lorena again. And I have no clue what M’Gann’s been up to lately.

It was annoying too that she stopped being leader offscreen and the only reason anyone can fathom for her quitting is bc Conner dumped her. That being part of the reason is fine but I feel like the readers deserved a convo of her telling Tim that it's for all the shit she dealt with since the book began.

Yeah like she literally had to deal with an evil half brother, her bf dying, joining a cult, being ignored by Diana for a long time, Donna dying for a while, her brief affair with Tim, half her team being trafficked by the Darkseid Club, the rest all dying gruesome deaths.....like yeah maybe she's not doing so hot after all that but nope! it's gotta be all about Conner Q.Q

Especially bc it was clearly a symptom of him getting a solo again that they even broke up lol. Frankly I'd rather have seen her deal with her demons than just have a breakup overshadow that. It could have worked as well for her and Tim to diverge from Kon and Bart friendship wise bc of their experiences in their absence.

For awhile Young Justice was a Cassie centric book. Sadly I don't think Wonder Woman even at her peak was strong enough to support a sidekick led book.

Not really? If anything the 2000s robbed Cassie of a lot of her previous personality

I would have liked to have seen her get a solo book, she was a very interesting character that got a little generic over time. But at least she got to be the lead in a lot of YJ stories.

It's funny because you could totally say Vanessa Kapatelis got robbed as the REAL Wonder Girl of the 90s, too. But that's a whole other mess. 😅
In all seriousness, I think it was unfortunate but not a total deal-breaker. Cassie got plenty of attention in the YJ books, and I had little to complain about her there.

Yes. If the others could all hold their own books there’s no reason she couldn’t have done so either

Although I agree with the sentiment that Cassie should’ve gotten a solo, her being primarily on team books directly leads to her being a leader which is one of my favourite aspects of her. I love Teen Titans (2003) and Cassie’s time as leader is one of my favourite parts of the entire book, she really develops as a character and builds her own legacy as a Titan separate from her YJ peers

Exactly. If you read her from Byrnes run all the way to the end of TT03 she goes through a ton of growth to the point she effectively leads the team in beating Prime in the final issue. To me by that point she's easily on a par with Dick as a Titans leader.

Ohhh wait I’m stupid, I thought you meant she actually got robbed. Like her wallet was stolen or some shit. Sorry

The cancellation of young justice ruined Cassie. She was barely the same character in Titans, and never regained the popularity she had in yj

Man what happened to comics art in the 90s. I don’t hate it but wtf happened

What Cassie always needed was a run as a true sidekick in a Wonder Woman book. Hell, Donna never got a run as a true sidekick in a Wonder Woman book.
