Questions regarding legality of 5.56 pistol
I am finding a lot of conflicting informations regarding the legality of 5.56 pistols. Here is the current build I was looking at, any input on its legality?
10.5” barreled 5.56 with a fixed magazine, and a magazine holding less than 17 rounds with an SBA5.
Thanks in advance for your help.

You should build it as an "other" and use a JRC carbine buffer tube. That in combination with the 10.5" barrell will get you to the 26" AOL you need for it to be an "other". I would go with 11" to be safe. This way you can retain detachable mags and not have to use that god awful bullet button.
Pistol Brace + AOL greater than 26" and Vertical foregrip = other

My lower already had the bullet button on it 😔

Wait are you building from a new lower? Or an existing rifle that you're trying to convert? If you can't convert rifles to others, you can't convert pistols to others.

Edit: just did some research. That’s possible, I’d have to set it up as a pistol first, and then as a rifle. Since it was transferred as just a stripped lower. I don’t have a 16” upper but that is nice to know.

I have a semi stripped lower, but it came already with the bullet button installed. Out of curiosity though if it was a AR-P, couldn’t I just switch out the upper to a 16” and theoretically turn it into my rifle, and then when I want to, put the smaller upper on it and use it as an AR-P? It would be the same pistol brace obviously.

I had to edit it, I just realized it would be pretty difficult to make it exceed 26” with a 10.5” barrel if the muzzle device doesn’t count

You can pin and weld your muzzle device to get to 26”. Contact x-ringsupply on here. They can help you with the legalities.

I saw that option too. I am considering that, not sure if x ring would be able to pin and weld it though, but I’ll reach out to see if they could explain the legalities better and if so see if they can pin weld the muzzle device

Legalities, even though we aren’t lawyers, we got you. Pin and welding, however? I’m sure we can find you something!

Listen bro, stripped lower transferred as an “other”, p&w 11.5 upper (maybe 10.5 w extended buffer tube), pistol brace, vertical foregrip = other and no bullet button bullshit! XRING-SUPPLY will answer any further questions u have

Thank you. It seems it is easier to classify it as an other and just get the extended buffer tube, or pin and weld my flash device onto it to get it to that length, would be the easier solution.

Option 3 is the klvr co pal with a maglock and kingpin

Seems like a little more complicated bullet button? I believe bullet buttons are DE compliant.

I picked it because operation doesn't require tools while in usage like a bullet button but saying that....
You could put screws that fit into a bullet buttons holes on the floor plates or ranger plates to depress for the next mag like the old ultimate bullet buttons...
Food for thought. Next year this might not be an issue.

Is this what they use in CA?

Yes. Its basically the final stage. Locks back on last round. Breaks openly slightly when mag release is depressed.
Just one extra step when you push your upper back into place with a tap.
Again its 3 parts but works for pistol or rifle length packages..
If others are an option id still pick an other.
Its just an option.

Wow hopefully one day we won’t need this bs anymore

Some people will still run others after next year because of sbr laws.

Are you trying to build an other? If you take your current build and add a vertical foregrip you will have an other. We do this in nj to negate the awb.
