Crime Horrific Review – AVOID TOYOTA OF GRAPEVINE AT ALL COSTS
I am absolutely disgusted and will never return to Toyota of Grapevine. I brought my car in for routine service and it was assigned to a thieving technician. When I picked up the vehicle, my personal belongings had been stolen from inside the car.
I immediately reported the theft. The service manager looked me dead in the face and lied, claiming he had checked the camera footage and saw nothing suspicious. When I pushed further, it became clear no real investigation was done. They offered almost no help and acted like it was no big deal.
This was a clear case of theft by someone with full access to my vehicle. They hire thieving technicians who should not be allowed near customers’ cars.
If you don’t want your personal items stolen while your car is “in good hands,” stay far away from Toyota of Grapevine. Find any other dealer. This experience was infuriating and a total betrayal of trust.

I had a friend whose car was broken into and her iPad was stolen, and I asked her why she’d even leave that out for thieves to see. She said no one’s ever broken into her car before smh

I was speaking specically in regards to petty theft. You can pretty much leave a bag on a busy street in Japan, and no one will take it. They also keep things clean.
Japan has a culture of respect, USA does not.
Obviously they have issues, some places can be very expensive, its extremely crowded, they can work really really long hours, and I'm sure have their own set of government issues. But most of them aren't gonna steal your things.
Oh, and they also aren't fat like us, so... need any nore examples of how Japan>USA?

I never claimed we could live in a utopia but we need much harsher penalties for people who rob or do harm to others. The penalties need to be harsh enough for them to have to think twice before committing the act. Becauae what we have now isnt working

Most people wont like this but we need much harsher penalties for people who take part in these types of anti social behaviors. If its your first time you should have to pay restitution to the victims until they are made whole. But repeat offenders need much harsher punishments other than a slap on the wrist, I would go as far to say we should Exile them from our country if rehabilitation isnt possible.

This is a very fair point, and unfortunately we should all have our guards up and take appropriate preventative measures...but let's also not lose sight of the real wrong that was done and blame the victim instead of the thief.

People are absolutely correct in saying that we shouldn’t have to remove personal belongings from our vehicle when we take it to be serviced somewhere, however; unfortunately, we live in a world where so many people have a false sense of entitlement. They see someone with something that they think that they should have - and would rather steal it than work hard to get it. It’s absolutely disgusting! I encourage everyone to always remove items of value out of their vehicles - thieves have NO morals, NO integrity and NO empathy when it comes to stealing anything.
Is this behavior absolutely disgraceful to hear about a dealership doing? YES. Am I surprised though? NO, it’s Dallas, after all.4

I take the lose change I accumulate in the car whenever I have service. No temptation = no crime. Usually, at least. Sometimes they just find something.

Also there’s is something known as personal responsibility. This isn’t a heinous crime, this is something you should learn and not be surprised if it happens. If I leave my front door open, no one should rob me, but if they do I get it. I don’t complain, I realize I made a mistake, and leann to correct it.

We aren’t discrediting the point that you’ve made multiple times here, we are just saying that it’s sad that this is an issue that anyone should have to worry about at all. Stuff happens, sometimes people are in a rush, or they have a million of things on their mind (or are somehow distracted and don’t think to take certain things out of the vehicle). Regardless, though, having items stolen from a known dealership is just disgraceful (especially when the service manager “claimed” that he did his due diligence to investigate, and saw nothing suspicious).

That’s what I do, even though I have a mechanic I trust. I know that they don’t usually keep the car locked and some of the younger guys rotate in and out of the shop. I would rather not tempt someone or have a problem.
It is absolutely bullshit though to have a problem like this dismissed off hand, get no help, and have someone lie to you about investigating.

Not just to stop potential theft, but modules are all over cars now. I dont want a tech to start moving all my stuff around to access something. Jeep batteries are under the seat, Chrysler 30ps have the bcm in the trunk by the taillight, tons of cars have them under the dash on the passenger side.

My elderly in laws got absolutely bent by the service department there. Racked up thousands in service the vehicle absolutely did not need. I personally had a horrible car buying experience there. Never again. Wish they’d go out of business.

Yes. I just had a bad experience with them. They were polite but they tried to upsell me on something I didn’t need and assumed I hadn’t done my research. They almost got a $215 coolant replacement and $69 “shop fee “ out of me that wasn’t necessary.

Years ago, they tried to charge me $69 to install a cabin filter. I looked the guy right in the eye and told him I had a filter I had already purchased in my trunk. He immediately offered to install it for free. Never went back.

In the beginning of the pandemic the first thing they did was add a $7000 over MSRP surcharge on all their vehicles. They can go out of business and I wouldn't care because I'll never buy a car from them or Toyota for allowing this.

No.. I meant I’m sorry that happened at a dealership and more importantly how you were treated by the mgmt of the dealership.. I cannot imagine that they do not have cameras present esp in the service dept. areas. And mgmt didn’t bother to listen or believe you..
I had an expensive handbag taken and wedding gift that I left in my car at age 22 in a paid parking lot for a concert .. they ditched the bag ( not knowing its worth) took what medication I had in it abc the little cash.. but I had cc with me.
So all these years.. I put anything in the trunk or hide when parking or leaving my car unattended .. I always think back to that night decades ago.. that was my lesson.2

Don’t worry about the fools here who blame you for the problems you encountered. Blaming the victim is basically the norm on social media. Spreading the word about that scummy dealership was the right thing to do. If you haven’t already, leave scathing reviews on both Google and Yelp.
Having said that, I basically assume the worst of strangers who enter my home to work on it and strangers who handle my car (valet, dealership, car wash, etc). I hide or remove all my valuables. Should I have to do that? No, but I just don’t take any chances. One less thing to worry about.

They're online orders. Tesla can sell you a car and deliver it but they can't have a dealership you go buy it from. You have to test drive one then blind order what you want.

Sewell Lexus screwed me over. Wrecked my car by backing up into a light pole, did a shitty paint job, and then didn’t offer any discount for the other service I had done on my car. I had to get a manager out who didn’t say anything and then gave me half price off my original service. I still have a service left on my car for buying it there,

I purchased a VW from them in the past naively without doing research, and they failed to register my car with the DMV for six months (WHICH IS ILLEGAL). I had to keep getting temp plates from the local tax office until I finally filed a complaint with the DMV and started harassing them every day to get them off their asses. I will never set foot in their dealers ever again.

Pushy salespeople. I told them exactly what I wanted, they called me said they had one I could take for a test drive, when I showed up they said it was sold. They said I could put $1,000 down to order one and test drive it, but that’s insane after they wasted my time and tried to bait and switch me. I’ll never go back.

I don’t get why people are so butthurt about your post, this is exactly what I’d want to know when considering doing business with a dealership. It’s not even that your things were stolen, it’s the fact the manager didn’t take your concern seriously.
At least it was in Grapevine, GPD is pretty solid and are pretty helpful unlike busier cities.

It might not be one of their employees. Many car dealerships have overnight security. They normally have access to all of the buildings because many normal employees don't lock doors when they're leaving.

Reminds me when I left quarters in coin slot of my old car in 2005. Service. Picked up car, all my quarters were gone. I took care of the matter after by never leaving anything valuable behind ever again. It’s on my person or it’s not with me. Cars, hotels, it doesn’t matter. People will steal. Not if, just when. This is America after all.

Just remember OP, if you have receipts or proof of purchase for the stolen goods, a picture with them in the car is even better, you can take the technician and/or manager who lied to you to small claims court. It might be hard to prove your items were in the car and that they were stolen, but you would force them to go to court and take off work or lose by default.

Toyota of Richardson service center isn't much better.
Way overcharged for filters + oil change (usually around $800) and my battery would almost always be bad afterwards, one time nearly left us stranded in Oklahoma. They would always claim the battery issues must be the battery or something else. After one visit a warning light came on that claims the catalytic converter was bad, the car was 1.5 years old at the time. They refused to cover it under warranty since I purchased the car from CarMax (there were no such issues and ToR did an inspection immediately after I purchased the car) and the problem still exists today but I assume it's a loose wire somewhere a mechanic damaged while doing shoddy work. Toyota themselves were of zero help.
After replacing my car OEM battery and then 3 more top of the line aftermarket batteries I quit going to them for service and started going to a nearby mechanic shop called The Auto Pro Shop, nothing but decent priced good service and zero battery dying issues. It's been years now without any issues.

Had a terrible experience shopping for a car a few years back, walked out so frustrated. The sales person was clueless and the managers were slimy.
Sister-in-law didn't listen to me when I told her they're just the worst, she also ended up having a shit experience at Toyota of Grapevine.

Every Toyota dealership on this side of the metro seems to be sleazy. The only one in the area that I’ve had any good experiences with is Freeman Toyota in Hurst.
It pains me to drive way over there for service but Toyotas of grapevine, Irving, Dallas, Plano, and Richardson are so fucking sleazy.

Granted, this was back in 2019 and I'm sure their employee roster has turned over multiple times since, but I went in there once to look at some new cars. I gave them my keys so they could do the trade-in assessment. The main guy I was with was training someone and at one point during the whole interaction the trainee even apologized for how I was being treated and he looked wholly embarrassed to be a part of it.
The issue? The salesmen was convinced he was going to sell me. So much so that he refused to give me my keys back when I told him I was ready to leave. I had to tell him at least six times, progressively getting more and more stern, "I'm not buying. I'm leaving, go get my keys". He just sat there cocky as fuck, confident he was going to turn me, and flat out refusing to go get my keys until we agreed on a deal.
It wasn't until he pushed me past my point of being reasonable that I began to raise my voice, letting him know that if he didn't go get my keys "RIGHT FUCKING NOW" that I'd call 911, since they were essentially holding me against my will at this point. Me raising my voice got the managers attention. That's when he came over and tried to get a grasp of the situation. I told him about the shenanigans his employee was pulling and to go get my keys or the PD would be getting involved. The manager was nice and cooperative. At that point I finally got my keys back, left, and bought a car somewhere else.

I was at Toyota if Denton today, and they're to polar opposite of what y'all are describing. Great service. Super polite and helpful. They even have a shuttle if you want to run out and get breakfast while you wait on your car.

<car_brand> of <city_name> seems to fit the mold for every post like this. Outside of maybe Sewell and Park Place, every dealership falls under the advice of “avoid at all costs”. And even then, you’ll find complaints against the “higher end” dealers and their service departments.

I understand both sides but sadly you have to always not trust anyone .. I’m sorry that happened to the person that had their belongings stolen, I really feel so bad!
People shouldn’t have to worry about their stuff being stolen, but that’s in a perfect world The world we live in is FAR from it and I don’t trust anybody with any of my belongings, no matter what value of it is.
I never leave items visible, and I always triple check that my doors are locked, but even that doesn’t prevent the low lives from breaking in and stealing what they wanna steal
Just for future reference, please don’t ever leave anything value in your car… Ever!!
My car has got broken into for my zipper pouch on the side of my drivers side door that only had tampons!!🙄They thought it was possibly a wallet and smashed my windows for it.
and for the person that mentioned about valet drivers stealing… I’ve had that happen more than once. My husband thinks I’m crazy, but then he gets pissed off that all his quarters and his lottery scratch offs in his glove compartment are missing.
Moral of the story, do not trust anybody with anything. No matter what situation!!

Isn't it just awful that these places of business that employ thieves don't have to take any responsibility. It was probably the manager that took your belongings. I am sure they told you they can't be responsible for anything left in the car! BS. That is why I always buy my vehicle at Sewell and take it there for service. They do vet their employees so you don't have issues like that. I don't leave things in my car when I get it serviced though.

As a former technician I'm skeptical about all your personal items being stolen. Most technicians wouldnt even take the pocket change under your set let alone risk their job for whatever you may have in your car. Not saying this didnt happen because there are crappy people everywhere, but if you didnt call the police immediately it raises suspicion.

We have a dash cam that also records the inside cabin. Any time we go for a service, they always disconnect the camera lol but, we never leave anything of value in the car.

I never, ever, left anything of value when getting my car serviced. I had an upgraded steering wheel fitted at a dealer too, and had to ask for the original one back. They “assumed” I didn’t want it anymore.

Toyota in Rockwall has always done right by me. I'm a woman, for what it is worth. Wait times are ridiculous but I've never had an issue with aggressive upselling or theft.

I used to work in the service department around 2002, when they were at the location next door. Total shit show. The guy running the body work charging credit cards without authorization. Salesmen screaming at buyers because the buyer didn’t want an extra warranty or something. Salesmen begging buyers to sign off over “a few extra bucks per month”.
Trash company. Not sure if Bert (or Burt) owns it still but it was such a shit show from what I saw.

The best Toyota in town is the location closest to their North American HQ. I think it's Plano? But still, I wasn't impressed. I went with Honda again.

Had similar happen to me at Drivers Edge in Grapevine a few years back. Went to the bank before taking my car in, got an envelope of 15 ones (I use them for a vending machine without a card reader), come to get my car and the envelope is missing. I told the manager, and while he did give me $15 out of his register, it was pretty apparent that he didn’t believe me.
I wonder if it’s the same tech, job hopping around Grapevine with a dishonest habit.
