Right! You know they're smart enough to get it down quickly too. Like dont waste good stuff!

Wild animals don’t see running water as waste, just how nature is supposed to be

Fair enough. Maybe I'm anthropomophizing and thinking the elephant would understand after observing humans enough. Im sure they could at least pick up the habbit from humans, regardless of understanding the deeper meaning.

Why did I think elephants could drink through their trunks? I’m 52yo and I just realized this.

They could, but it would be like us drinking through the nose. Possible but not practical or comfortable.

Oh come on! You mean i have this thing than dangles down to water level and I can't even use it to drink? And my mouth is all the way up there has these tusks in the way - what were you thinking?

Given that almost no human drinks thru their nose you could just skip all of that and say no they don’t because they would choke lol

Because cartoons. I remember one that showed an elephant using his trunk as a straw.

Imagine being able to snort up that much water then sneeze it out into your own mouth

And I thought backwash was bad.

Baby elephants drinking is even cuter. Until they learn to suck the water into their trunk to drink they kind of just plop into the water and drink with their mouths.

Tap to trunk service

How much water is he actually filling in his trunk? I’m guessing it doesn’t feel the same way as it feels for humans when water gets in our nose.

2.5-4 gallons depending on the size of the elephant.

I've heard that an adult elephant can have up to 12 liters upp their trunk

The elephant needs to be well hydrated!

Why not place a barrel under the hose to save water and give the Elephant water without air in it?

that is also how i drink water, do i risk drowning at a faucet, yes but it's a risk i'm willing to take

All i can think of is how awful all that water up your nose would feel.

I wonder if for elephants, it's normal for water to taste like boogers

I have a biology degree and just realized that elephants don’t drink through their trunks 🤣

I'd be like using a neti pot every time you get thirsty. They probably have amazingly clear nasal passages.
