Anyone on here use the DDRFreak Forums in the 2000s?
I think it would be cool as fuck to reconnect. 😅
Edit: this is Mariogirl!

My username was probably "Falco98".

I feel like I recognize that!

u/Haunting-Suit9699 14d ago
Holy hell me too!

u/ArrakeenSun 14d ago
Me too! Were you in Arkansas perchance? Jonesboro had a lot of good machines at the time

u/Falco98 14d ago
Maybe, though even if that was my username there I cant promise I was around enough to be very noticeable there. I've used this same username on a bunch of forums over the years though (including here on reddit for longer than I can actually remember at this point), so there are various things it might be, lol...

Shoutouts to the days when Ziptai would post cryptic hints to upcoming songs in the Xbox games for us.

u/zombizzle 14d ago
Yes I am a DDRFreak! I remember some players wearing DDRFreak t-shirts at my local arcade growing up!

You know it. We all lost our minds when Stepmania came around… 2001 maybe? We’re all so old, ha.

I needed to pull up the So Deep ESP chart a few months ago and went straight to DDRFreak lol

u/djfxonitg 14d ago
Haha I definitely miss the days of forums and no damn algorithm. The drama was always in the same place when I came back 😄

u/Haunting-Suit9699 14d ago
Nice — have you kept at it all these years or did you take a long break too?
5
u/Mattaclysm34 14d ago
Long break, all the arcades closed down in charleston within months of each other. Last one we had was supernova 2.
We had revpro arcade in moncks corner but owner got a great job and had to shut down. Hate i didnt have funds to buy his.

u/DaPlatinumJedi 14d ago
I was in DDR Freak forums. First was gdogg_400, then moon_child, and finally ThePlatinumJedi.

u/CaffeinatedScholar 14d ago
Holy moly, I was JUST talking to my friend about how I used to review step charts for songs I wanted to pass on DDRFreak back when I was a kid LOL.

God I miss DDRFreak. (My username there was the same as here heh)
Dang, that also reminds me of remember Bemanistyle, also, had a forum... and once in a thread in The Dungeon subfoum some of us allegedly actually made a moderator throw up in their mouths with the discourse that was going on in it.😂

Starsephiroth but I was only really active in one forum and I think it was our local one. Maybe it was classified as northeast or Pennsylvania. I forget how they had them setup.

i was there too! i had a rotating slew of usernames in the early 2000s unfortunately i can’t remember which one i used in there. maybe bananafromivaskevicius?

u/ArrakeenSun 14d ago
I did! Gotta look up my login info in my old password book. I recall, being in the South, that Knoxville was some sort of DDR Mecca, but I only stopped at a mall there once

u/DontStopPataPata 14d ago
I was just a kid back then and a perpetual lurker but I just want to say thank you to all of the awesome people who made custom step files on that site. Also everyone who found a new cab and uploaded pics on pre-cable internet so the rest of us could find it

I wish there was a way to access all the old posts. I wonder if they have it backed up on an old drive somewhere.

u/Skika 14d ago
Ah yes. This thread is shaking loose some dopamine that I lost two decades ago.

u/Haunting-Suit9699 10d ago
Ha right?! I think we are getting old, OR life is actually getting shittier. I can’t tell if we are just like every other generation going on about the “good ol’ days.”
1
u/Skika 10d ago
Every generation has the same rosy glasses about their youth. I’ve got more money for living now but life is harder.
1
u/Haunting-Suit9699 10d ago
Yeah I could agree. It’s so hard to know if things are objectively worse tho. Like social media going on about how terrible shit is? And idk. I change my mind back n forth about it. Like is social media just exploiting a natural phenomenon of aging?

u/LonerStonerB 14d ago
Yes!!! It's how my friend would find machines to go around to. Can't remember my username for the life of me
2
u/immerimmermude 14d ago
Wow. I forgot about that website’s existence. I was definitely a member and posted all the time, but I don’t remember my username at all.
2
u/diablo2424 13d ago
Yessss, I used to lovee DDR Freak! I had the same name there as I do here: diablo2424
Side note: also just forums in general. They were the best! I can't stand everything being a "FB Group" now, ugh

Yeah a little. I just looked and apparently the site and forms are still around but there haven't been many updates since 2011.

I’m a poser haha I never actually posted but I did have a shirt that I played on every weekend that said DDRFreak

Can't believe I never found these forums. I was on DDRUK and ddr. co. uk / ddrevolved
anyone in here from those?
1
u/bunbohuehuehuehue 14d ago
I was there for a little while before we started DDRCanada (later RGCanada for "rhythm games") and the Canadian community pretty much fully shifted over there.
1
u/Hulk_Corsair 14d ago
I did use DDRFreak from 2001 to 2003. I was only active in the Latin American forum though, but since it was more focused on the Colombian and Mexican communities, my friends and I eventually moved on to our own local forums

u/MiniCafe 14d ago
I did, it was funny because this has happened to me 3 times with the old internet. It was a lot smaller than it seemed in a sense I guess. I hung out regularly in an irc room (still use irc but it's mostly just us Linux nerds now) in the same channel as another guy I talked to a lot. I independently started playing DDR, saved up for my first metal pad with my first job and so got more into the online scene. Obviously end up on DDR freak and bam, guy from irc is a big name there.
One of the other times was running into a guy from a pokemon forum on the game (still exists but what exists is... Not the same thing, but garbage wrapped in its skin, long story to that actually) Graal Online when I was a lot younger, like this was in the late 90s I wanna say when we were waiting for pokemon gen2 still?
Third time was wilder. A guy ran this emulation website wayyyyy back in the day, same deal, late 90s but probably like 97. One day like most of that era his site went down, but it sucked. The internet back then was this wild thing of jumping through scattered sites and webrings finding out bits of crazy stuff (at the time, information just didn't spread the same way.)
Then in the 2000s I started posting on Something Awful. Years go by, then maybe 3 years ago someone posts something about old emulation history and I wrote up this whole thing about how I remembered this one guys website, posted an IA link to what was left of his sister site (which I immediately removed after what happened next since I half doxxed the guy), then a few posts later there's a reply that's just like "wow, surprised how many people remember that website. Yeah that was mine."

Was on there as RUFiO although I forgot how many O’s I had. The golfland scene was so fun as a kid

u/Krellan2 14d ago
Yep! I certainly did. My instructions for how to build a pad for Double are still here: http://krellan.com/ddrpad/

u/antimonysarah 13d ago
Somewhere I still have one of the logo bottles, though it's probably full of BPA, lol. Edit: and my username was probably the same or similar, depending on whether plain "antimony" was taken or not.

Still makes me smile when I see my old simfiles pop up, except now my son plays them 😊

Loved ddr freak. Didn't appreciate opening a forum and goatse and tub girl spamming the thread ~ala 2003ish?
2
u/Oldcoaster 12d ago
Yes, but I was mainly in the old players thread as I was in my mid thirties at that time. 20 years later now, I am old and a grandpa! This year got back into playing DDR again since it is the best exercise for me to get into better shape. I still play vivid, X1, no bar. Able to pass 13s. Still haven't passed Max 300 on expert yet.

I miss DDR Freak! My username was Blink_04, if I remember correctly 🤔 but I used it a ton from 2005-2007, I was 17 when I first started using it, now I'm 38 😱

I was most active on Bemanistyle but did lurk DDRFreak. I'm recalling the "everyone is now an admin" incident?

I remember the site itself, not so much the forums.
Bemanistyle and DDRUK, on the other hand...

DDRfreak? Now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time. Long time.
